Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital
Full time, Permanent (37.5 hours per week)
08:00AM - 16:00PM (Monday - Friday)
£23, £29, depending on experience and qualifications) per annum plus benefits


Here at Serco, we're looking for a Building Craftsperson (Carpenter) to join us at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, offering a unique opportunity to work in a diverse environment providing a wide scope for development of skills and knowledge across the wider building trade as well as making a positive difference in supporting the NHS and community we support.


Reporting into the Building Supervisor you will be part of the building maintenance team responsible for providing the building maintenance across the Norfolk & Norwich Hospital site as part of Serco's Hard FM estates service to the NHS.


Main Accountabilities:

To ensure that the Hospital Building, Fabric, Plant, Services and Equipment are maintained to a high standard to ensure continued efficiency, safety and reliability and to safeguard the future long term serviceability of the Estate as contractually required by Serco, Octagon and the Norfolk & Norwich NHS Trust

To be able to communicate effectively with Peers, Supervisors and Managers within Serco. To be able to communicate politely with Trust Staff, i.e. inform relevant people of work to be carried out, and informing of work status and potential unavailability of areas. To understand the contractual relationship between Serco, Octagon and the Trust.


To carry out reactive repairs and maintenance to the Building Fabric and Structure within all areas of the Hospital as directed by Supervisors or Managers.

To carry out Planned Preventive Maintenance (PPM)
To work in accordance with all relevant Serco Policies & Procedures, Work Place Regulationsand Best Practice Guidelines.
To work in a safe and responsible manner with full regard for own and other's safety at all times.
To attend work in compliance with the Computerised Time & Attendance System.
To actively participate in the Computerised Labour Control System, including accurate and punctual completion of Work Order Documentation.
To use personal communication equipment as requested.

To be prepared to attend work or work beyond expected finishing time in exceptional circumstances, as requested by Supervisors or Managers.

Communicate to Supervisors or Managers unrepaired faults or defects or requirements for spare parts and materials.
To attend on-site and off-site training as required.
To be aware of how the Building Craftsperson Role influences Serco's Norfolk & Norwich Contract and the wider company objectives


What you will need for this role:
Completion of a recognised appropriate Building Trade Apprenticeship or other relevant structured Training Program
Appropriate City & Guilds and or BTEC certification Minimum of NVQ Level 2 required
Proven experience of working in a similar environment
Knowledge and understanding of Building Services
Good communication and customer service skills
