Job description:

The role is situated in the Ship Standards and Technical Performance Support Team.

This team provides support to branches and posts in UK Maritime Services (UKMS) which are concerned with the safety of ships in terms of their navigation or operation, construction and equipment or environmental pollution.


You will work closely in a small, dynamic team providing effective business support to these branches and posts in accordance with an internal service level agreement.

This support underpins and enables the Agency to fulfil its international and domestic obligations in relation to ship safety, navigational safety and the prevention of environmental pollution from ships.


This is a fantastic opportunity to join a diverse and supportive team in a varied role, which provides services that contribute directly to the safety of the seas.

There will be plenty of opportunities for you to meet new people, build relationships with internal and external stakeholder's as well as broaden your existing knowledge and skills.

This role will be based in the Southampton HQ.

MCA supports flexible working and operates a hybrid working model between home and office for this role, giving you greater flexibility over where and when you work.

Details of the arrangement will be discussed further with your line manager.


Responsibilities

Your responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Database input & reports
  • Secretariat duties and support for internal & external meetings including minute taking / reports
  • Customer service / dealing with enquiries from internal / external customers
  • Production of statutory certificates and exemptions
  • Website and intranet maintenance tasks
  • Supporting the production of regulatory guidance documents.
  • Ad hoc tasks in accordance with the service level agreement in support of TST and Directorate functions.

Person specification:


To be successful in this role, you will need to have good inter-personal skills with the ability to build good working relationships across teams including with senior managers.


The ability to organise your work both methodically and at pace will come naturally to you, diligently forward planning and tracking ongoing tasks.


Being organised, you will have the ability to manage multiple and often conflicting priorities to time and to a high standard.


You will have good communication skills both verbally and in writing, with the ability to adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences both inside and outside of the business.

A real team player, you will be highly adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements of the role.


You will have excellent numeracy and literacy skills and proven IT skills especially with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel.
