MTrec Technical are proudly representing our prestigious Engineering client, based in Tyne and Wear, with their plans for growth and expansion, by recruiting a permanent Lead Design Engineer to join their team.

The Job You'll Do;

  • Management of engineers and draughtsman to maintain high standards and integrated design work
  • Ability to carry out performance and development reviews for their staff
  • Responsible for checking of work packages and feedback of any issues identified as a means of development
  • Responsible for implementation of standard design working practices to develop standard working methodology
  • Taking pragmatic, hands on approach to management, with leadership skills being always highly visible.
  • To be an operational member of the design team to ensure systems are delivered on time and to specification.
  • Concept system design including circuits, pumps, tooling and fabrication.
  • Produce engineering calculations to ensure specifications are met including:
  • Flow through valves and pipework, Volumetric pressure calculations, Power consumption calculations.
  • Produce P&ID drawings and bill of materials for each design using AutoCAD.
  • Produce detail drawings and general arrangement drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Component specification and verification in accordance with operating environment.
  • Complete engineering documentation to ensure continued compliance with ISO standards and CE marking directives.
  • Lead on design reviews with the inclusion of other functions communicate system design to full project team.
  • Lead on DFMEA reviews with a view to take actions to eliminate or reduce failures
  • Preparing reports for management, customers and other relevant parties
  • Representing the company at technical meetings with the customer, external bodies and professional contract teams.
  • Creating Operation and Maintenance manuals/documentation.
  • Creating technical files and data books including:
  • PED technical files & ATEX/IECEx technical files and customer specific quality documentation.
  • Liaising with the Quality department to ensure documentation is completed for a system within a timely manner.
  • Support the continuous improvement program and embrace as part of standard work.
  • Liaise and negotiate with customers to ensure system requirements are met.
  • Assist manufacturing with commissioning both on and off site.
  • Be able to produce risk assessments for pressure containing equipment and machinery.
  • Develop and keep engineering planning updated.
  • Proven experience of delivery of £multimillion systems.

About You;

  • Must have an appropriate Engineering Related Degree.
  • Experience using CAD software packages (preferably Inventor 3D & AutoCAD 2D).
  • Be prepared to travel as appropriate to support project requirements (globally).
  • Ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to foster good working relationships internally and externally.
  • Take reasonable care of the health and safety of themselves and of others who may be affected by what they do or do not do.
  • Cooperate with the employer on health and safety matters.
  • Not misuse any equipment that is provided for safety purposes.
  • Awareness of working in a hazardous environment.
  • Follow instructions from the employer on health and safety matters and attend relevant health and safety training.
  • Comply with the company Code of Ethics and standards.
  • Ability to work with integrity and act on own initiative.
  • Ability to visualise and articulate complex change programs and projects.
