    The Company

    Our client is a fast-growing and innovative engineering, design and technology Company that work across a diverse range of market sectors including Automotive, Rail, Defence and the Built Environment. Their rapid expansion has led to the growth of the engineering team and the need for a new Lead Engineer – Vehicle Innovation.

    The Opportunity

    You will be working on exciting and cutting edge projects, predominantly within the automotive sector, but this will not be a run of the mill role To be successful, you will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, be highly organised and be able to build effective relationships with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The lead innovation engineer will assist with the innovation strategy, mapping out key technologies and products to support the development and introduction of new systems and technologies onto a range of vehicle platforms – across multiple sectors.

    The work will entail a combination of strategic planning for key systems (e.g. Autonomy, ADAS, Hybrid etc) which will inform the business on areas in which to focus to support future business. The role will also promote the companies experience in development and integration of products into military platforms. Following the successful delivery of the Innovation Roadmap and Innovation Report, future contracts will be managed by the Lead Innovation Engineer with support from the wider business to deliver against.

    You will liaise closely with and report to our Head of Design & Engineering and/or our clients to ensure the Innovation programs defined are delivered.

    You will work closely with the Customer, Project Managers and the Engineering/Design team to turn engineering concepts, initiated by customer requirements or business objectives, into fully validated and verified designs fit for volume manufacture. You will be part of the customer facing team able to articulate engineering concepts to engineers, project managers and other key internal and external stakeholders.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    ESSENTIAL

    • Honours Degree or equivalent in an appropriate Engineering or similar subject.
    • Experience developing concepts in an agile environment which focuses on delivering product on time
    • Proven track record of successful involvement in development of Innovation Projects.
    • Significant experience in the development of Innovation Roadmaps and Reports to support business case development and investment
    • Proficient user of MS Office software
    • Ability to communicate effectively on a technical level with both peer and management groups.
    • Understanding of engineering drawings and design standards, ideally to aerospace / defence requirements.
    • Familiarity with manufacturing techniques such as machining, moulding, casting and sheet metal fabricating.
    • Experience in the validation and verification of product including environmental qualification.
    • Proficient in delivering key presentations at a senior level
    • Ability to comfortably showcase innovation ideas and concepts to the customer during demonstrations.
    • SC clearance or ability to obtain.

    DESIRABLE

    • Previous experience in the design and development of systems within a Defence/Aerospace/Automotive environment.
    • Familiarity with configuration control and change management
    • Exposure to Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools.
    • Significant portfolio of project planning skills.
