As part of our business plan APEM Ltd are significantly expanding our Terrestrial Ecology Division, as we grow, so does our Ecology team, and with this we are looking for a Principal Ecologist to help us deliver innovative ecological work in Scotland.
We offer an excellent opportunity to deliver a range of projects for our clients including the UK environment / conservation agencies, wider development clients and the water and energy industries and supporting services; unified by the theme of protecting the environment.
About the role
In this role we will be looking to you to be the team leader for Scotland (and potentially northern England depending on team size expansion).
APEM also has a long history of scientific projects and developments that have keep us at the forefront of research development in many areas.
Project work will include leading on projects for infrastructure development, such as utilities, greenways, housing and on shore wind farms, as well as more specific work on terrestrial species such as otters, bats, badgers, overwintering, breeding and nesting birds and other protected species.
About you
Essential -
- Provide the business with authoritative ecological advice and innovative mitigation solutions/enhancement considerations across a range of sites and schemes with varying levels of environmental and ecological sensitivities.
- Up to date overview of EU and UK legislation pertaining to ecology and environmental issues, as well as Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), Ecological Impact Assessments and planning regulations.
- Assist with expanding and managing the current terrestrial ecology portfolio within APEM and to represent it externally.
- Undertake survey work as and when necessary and appropriate; leading protected species surveys and mitigation projects.
- A track record in, or aspirations for, continuing professional development and supporting the development/ management of junior ecologists.
- Have a proven work winning track record, experience of preparing bids and tenders and generating new business opportunities.
- Full membership of CIEEM (or to have eligibility if not currently held).
- Hold at least one NatureScot protected species licence (alternatively an experienced botanist FISC level 4 or above).
- Have experience of leading and motivating a team.
