We have a current opportunity for a temp to perm Finance Officer for a London based Womens Housing Charity.

This is a brilliant chance to work in the finance team of an amazing organisation on a temporary basis initially, paying £14 - £16.68 per hour.

This role is a hybrid role, working from home for 4 days per week and 1 day in the office (flexible on this) and the organisation are looking to make this role permanent.

The Finance Officer will report to the Finance Team Leader and support Managers and the Income Officer with Housing Benefit payments and other income collection.

The Finance Officer will be expected to maintain and update the system recording service user details, charges, and payments, and work in partnership with external organisations.

(such as Local Authority Housing Teams and Social Services)
As a Finance Officer the role will focus on housing benefit income and income collection, including but not limited to:

  • Upon receipt of Housing Benefit to check payments schedules on the Landlord or Local Authority portal and update the system accordingly on a timely basis, usually within 3 working days.
  • Liaise with Local Authorities where payment schedules are missing or late.
  • To notify refuge managers of Housing Benefit overpayments and arrange refunds.
  • To update system when residents' personal charges have been paid on a timely basis, usually within 3 working days.
  • In conjunction with refuge managers, arrange refunds to residents for any overpayment of personal charges.
  • Monitor residents' rent accounts, ensuring correct rates are charged and paid.
  • To work alongside refuge staff in reconciling/adjusting the system accounts according to changes of circumstances.
  • To support refuge managers on late entries on the system, newcomers, or leavers, updating charges accordingly.

General responsibilities:

  • Part of your role will be to contribute to the annual rent increase process, ensuring all breakdowns are provided to Local Authorities and partner Housing Associations and that approvals are received.
  • To support the Finance Team with meeting month end deadlines.
  • To support the Finance Team with year end audits.
  • Working alongside other Finance colleagues and staff at Head Office and if needed site visits.

Skills needed for the Finance Officer role:

  • Relevant experience of housing rent management systems and knowledge of income recovery in housing management.
  • Experience of working with multiple external stakeholders and internal managers.
  • Ability to develop and promote strong internal and external relationships.
  • Working knowledge of GDPR compliance good understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Accurate, methodical and efficient in managing own time and varied tasks.
