    As a Sustainability Manager you will lead the development and execution of our sustainability strategy including, delivering, assessing and improving our environmental, social and economic impact and ensuring we meet our sustainability goals.

    You will also drive our sustainability initiatives, measurement and reporting whilst contributing to a greener and more responsible future.

    Responsible for implementing Northern Powergrid's (NPg) sustainability strategy alongside our colleagues, stakeholders and shareholders.

    • Further develop NPg's sustainability strategy and target setting, ensuring we are in line with relevant regulation, frameworks and best practice.
    • Provide expert strategic sustainability support, advice and guidance to NPg leadership team, corporate business teams and stakeholders, to help them achieve their strategic commitments.
    • Lead on the policy direction of key sustainability initiatives including social impact and NPg as an anchor organisation.
    • Monitor NPg's performance against strategic sustainability objectives and targets and provide internal and external sustainability reporting and benchmarking, including for our regulator and shareholders.
    • Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including employees, customers, suppliers, and community organisations, to promote sustainability awareness, embed sustainability across NPg, and foster collaborative partnerships.
    • Stay current with industry trends and emerging best practices in sustainability. Conduct research to identify new technologies, strategies, and opportunities for enhancing sustainability performance. Explore innovative solutions and propose pilot projects or initiatives to test and implement sustainable practices.
    Excellent interpersonal skills, capable of working within a team and building effective relationships


    • Outstanding writing skills with the ability to tailor messages to a variety of audiences and assimilate complex information into business updates and reports
    • Strong programme management skills to manage resource and budgets to deliver prioritised projects and tasks
    • Have a Degree in relevant discipline to undergraduate degree level or equivalent work experience e.g. environmental science, sustainability
    • Awareness of key sustainability issues, reporting standards and best practice.
    • Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
    • Experience of implementing corporate sustainability strategies and managing and monitoring performance of these.
    • Experience of completing external environmental and sustainability reporting.
    Relevant professional experience with appropriate qualification(s) in sustainability (desired but not crucial).
