    Role DescriptionA site role with a high level of responsibility for the implementation of the Princes Limited Safety, Health & Environmental Policy.

    Providing clear leadership for the development of a safe environment for employees and all visitors to the business across the site.


    A key member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing leadership for the continuous improvement, best practice and driving the safety & environment culture, including behavioural aspects of Health & Safety

    Principal Accountabilities


    Management & Compliance:

    • Develop and execute a rolling 3 year health and safety plan.
    • Keep abreast of changes to legislation to ensure continued compliance.
    • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety.
    • Evaluate working practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and legal compliance.
    • Deliver training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention.
    • Conduct monthly SHE audits to monitor compliance against policy.
    • Carry out frequent inspections to monitor behaviours and conditions.
    • Provide advice and support during incident in investigations to ensure root cause is clearly identified.
    • Manage the sites SHE corrective action database.
    • Drive the site behavioural safety agenda.
    • Report the sites SHE performance to the SLT and to head office.
    • Liaise with enforcing authorities.
    • Chair Wisbech site safety committee meetings.
    • Manage the site SHE budget.

    Continuous Improvement:

    • Provide coaching and support to the senior management team to help ensure and achieve all company SHE objectives are met and best practice is shared.
    • Continually evaluate the sites performance and recommend opportunities for improvements.
    • Provide advice and guidance to line managers on all aspects of SHE, where appropriate.
    • Evaluate new process/machines and liaise with the engineering and production departments to design safe working methods.
    • Submit capital expenditure requests for SHE improvements.
    General Responsibilities


    • Understanding and implementation of lean manufacturing work practices including 5S, AM and problem solving (including root cause analysis), to drive continuous improvement activity throughout the site
    • Have a detailed understanding of the Princes Operating System (POS) and the Site Must Win Battle Plan
    • Ensure all training for direct reports is documented using the appropriate skills matrix.
    • You must exercise reasonable skill and care for the health and safety of yourself and other people at work and you must not interfere with or obstruct anything provided in the interests of health and safety at work.
    • The incumbent should demonstrate behaviours which are in line with the site values & help to improve the Quality, Safety & Environmental culture.
    • Support the business in working towards delivering our ethical trading and human rights vision.
    • When engaging with internal and external stakeholders (such as consumers, customers or suppliers) maximise any potential opportunities to communicate Princes' ethical trade and human rights approach.

    • NEBOSH Certification or equivalent
    • IEMA Environmental qualification or similar
    • Experience of working as HSE Manager within an FMCG business.
    • Experience of managing people and dealing with trade unions.
    • Experience of dealing with enforcement authorities Environment Agency, BSI, Local Authorities.
    • Experience of training development and delivery, including IOSH
    • Demonstrate excellent decision making ability with strong quality and people management skills
    • Understanding of OHSAS and ISO management systems is essential.
    • Must have in depth knowledge of HSE law and policy.
