Overview of role


A Fitter - Lifts will be responsible for and act as an integral part of a group of staff assigned to the lift assets contracted to the Lifts Direct Labour Organisation (DLO).


In this role, you will carry out electrical and mechanical repairs and maintenance works on Lift assets to ensure maximum availability.

You will lead a group or be a member of a group of working staff undertaking routine or preventative maintenance on any machine maintained by the Division ensuring that all relevant safety and quality standards, rules and procedures are adhered to.


Key Accountabilities

  • Performing planned and reactive maintenance tasks in accordance with corporate & statutory requirements
  • Undertaking comprehensive fault diagnosis and repair on a range of lifts (platform, traction and hydraulic)
  • Book onto stations and other lift locations / sites following correct procedure
  • Ensuring the safety of themselves and others at all times during the course of their work
  • Isolate and operate Lift machinery and other assets as required, following correct procedure, without deviation, from stated operational procedures
  • Ability to safely work live using relevant equipment for testing / fault finding
  • Ability to fault find on Lifts, diagnose root causes and take recommended remedial action
  • Accountable for reporting on job progress to relevant parties
  • Representing the DLO whilst on site
  • Completing service and repair work via the company asset management system in a timely manner
  • Clearly identifying spares and materials as required for procurement
  • Mentoring and developing apprentices, fitter
  • Ensuring compliance with policies/procedures/standards
  • Operating within given policies and procedures
  • Undertake adhoc projects as required
  • Providing advice and guidance to support the delivery of value for money and continuous improvement
  • Ability to carry out a wide range of electrical and mechanical measurements for monitoring purposes

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

Skills

  • Lift Controller / PLC fault diagnosis (Essential)
  • Ability to use the correct equipment e.g. multimeter, Voltage tester, Insulation Resistance, and record results (Essential)
  • Ability to carry out electrical and mechanical measurements (Essential)
  • Ability to fault find, diagnose root causes and carry out repairs or recommend remedial action (Essential)
  • Ability to follow laid down procedures for the relevant processes being carried out and work without supervision (Essential)
  • Be selfmotivated and able to lead and work with a group of staff (Essential)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (Essential)
  • Full UK driving licence as driving company vehicles (Essential)

Experience

  • Proven experience of maintaining and repairing a range of lift types (Essential)
  • Experience of fault finding, diagnosing root causes and recommending remedial action (Essential)
  • Experience of leading a team (Desirable)
  • Experience using a PC (Essential)
  • Previous experience in the role of a Fitter (Lifts) (Essential)

Knowledge

  • NVQ level 3 in lift servicing/repair or installation (Essential)
  • C&G or BTEC electronic or electrical engineering (Desirable)
  • NALMS or LEIA certified (Desirable)

Additional Information

The shift pattern for the role provides 24/7 cover and is based on a 7 week rota working in pairs. This consists of 2 weeks of Days, 2 weeks on Nights, 1 week on Lates, a 3 night weekend of nights and a 2 day weekend on days.

This is a safety critical role, so you will need to get clearance from our Occupational Health team before you start.
