- A degree or equivalent in a relevant scientific subject (e.g., Analytical Chemistry).
- Theoretical knowledge of GC (ideally GC-MS and or SIFT-MS)
- Proven experience of working in research laboratories or similar environment, including evidence of relevant professional training.
- Excellent computer skills and practical IT experience in the suite of Microsoft Office programmes (in particular Microsoft Excel) for data processing and accurate and precise report preparation

About the Unit
The Faculty of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics works across a range of disciplines including computing & communications, engineering & innovation, physical sciences, life, health & chemical sciences, environment, earth & ecosystems, and research & enterprise.
The role
The Open University is recruiting a Research Technician (Analytical) to support funded research goals across the STEM Faculty. The postholder will carry out various analyses primarily focusing on GC-MS and SIFT-MS and will work closely with academics and students to enable the delivery of the Faculty's research and commercialisation objectives. This role is also to support the wider STEM faculty and the post holder will be expected to maintain high standards of health and safety and laboratory practice within laboratories and will be expected to carry out a range of other tasks to support the wider technical team in between projects.
