This is an exciting opportunity for ambitious and motivated applicants seeking to gain SHO-level experience in the field of obstetrics and gynaecology.

Weekly timetable


The appointee will have a varied timetable of outpatient clinics, theatre sessions, as well as acute work across obstetrics and gynaecology.

We will ensure time is allocated for teaching and professional development.

All junior doctors in the department of obstetrics and gynaecology are supported to develop an area of clinical interest and are actively encouraged to participate in quality improvement and governance activities.

About us


The Trust has a successful track record of delivering high quality acute medical and surgical services for 500,000 patients across West Berkshire, an area extending from Newbury in the west to Henley-on-Thames in the east, and including Wokingham and parts of Hampshire to the south and parts of Oxfordshire to the north.

The Trust is one of the largest general hospital Trusts in the country and is Reading's biggest employer.

The hospital provides all those services normally associated with a very large District General Hospital.

The hospital provides services on a single site for all the major specialities including Accident and Emergency, Trauma and Orthopaedics, Intensive Care, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Genitourinary Medicine, Ophthalmology, ENT, Maxillo-Facial surgery, Paediatrics (including a NICU), general medicine (including all major medical specialities including CCU, Renal Unit, ITU and gastroenterology), radiotherapy and oncology, and all the general surgical specialities.

The trust provides several services Berkshire-wide (eg Ophthalmology, renal).

Following the principle of care closer to home, the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust offers services from many locations, including King Edward VII Hospital, Windsor, Windsor dialysis unit, West Berkshire Community Hospital, Royal Berkshire Bracknell Healthspace, Townlands Hospital Henley, Dingley Child Development Centre and there are visiting clinics in Wallingford and Wantage.

The post holder will work across the specialty, with opportunities in all areas.

Gynaecology


General Gynaecological and specialist gynaecology outpatient clinics are delivered at the RBH site and across spokes sites at Bracknell, Townlands and at West Berkshire community hospital.

Clinics incorporate a mix of virtual and face-to-face appointments and provide a supportive environment for teaching and training. We run elective gynaecology operating lists and actively encourage joint consultant operating to maintain and develop gynaecological surgical skills.

Ambulatory gynaecology


We have a well-established ambulatory gynaecology service with nine outpatient hysteroscopy clinics per week delivered by a team of consultants.

We run one-stop consultant scan and 'scope clinics, as well as outpatient Myosure, and Novasure clinics.

Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Unit (EPAGU)


Our EPAGU sees women up to 16 weeks gestation and is supported by a dedicated team of three consultants who work with sonographers, nursing staff and a physician associate to deliver a 5 day-a-week service.

There is a weekly MDT where complex cases are discussed. We offer inpatient and outpatient medical treatment for miscarriage.

Our EPAGU team work closely with BPAS to ensure a seamless service for women who experience complications of abortion treatment.

Urogynaecology


In addition to consultant-led Urogynaecology clinics, which run throughout the week across the RBH and spokes sites, we have a weekly urodynamics clinic and a well-established urogynae MDT.

The urogynae team work closely with Urology and Colorectal pelvic floor specialists for complex urogynaecology.

We run nurse led ring pessary clinics, facilities to train women to do intermittent self-catheterisation, and have two dedicated Women's health physiotherapists to support the service.


OASI


We run a dedicated multidisciplinary clinic for women who have experienced an obstetric anal sphincter injury, or who have perineal problems and dyspareunia.

We offer endoanal sonography and anorectal physiology testing, as well as supervised physiotherapy and biofeedback. We also offer birth reflections support where it's needed.

Gynaecological cancer

We are a Gynaecological cancer unit with a weekly gynae-oncology MDT. Cases that meet the criteria for treatment in a cancer centre are referred to Oxford.

Fertility

Whilst we do not offer assisted conception techniques, our fertility team provide ovulation induction with follicular tracking. The team have a regular programme of audit ad participate in research.

Colposcopy and Vulval diseases

We run colposcopy sessions. Our consultant and nurse colposcopists are supported by an admin team to aid smooth running of the servic
