Role Purpose


As part of the group HSQE Department you will be accountable for leading Health and Safety in the Construction London business.

This role will report to the Director of Health and Safety and be responsible for line managing a team of Health and Safety Managers whilst ensuring that strategic business objectives are met.

This team manage a large portfolio of complex projects in Central London and Surrey with project values up to £150mn, so main contracting experience would be a big advantage.


Responsibilities:


Implement and maintain the aims and objectives of the Company Health and Safety policy and Health Safety & Environmental Management System taking account of changes in legislation, best practice and Codes of Practice.

Provide timely and appropriate recommendations to the ISG business and advise the Directors responsible for each project, of arrangements and strategy for safety management.

Chair business unit Health Safety & Environmental meetings; provide minutes and progress actions as necessary.

Provide innovative Health and Safety solutions and communications, particularly 'lessons learnt' and Health and Safety schemes via the Health and Safety Best Practice Hub.

Investigate all accidents / incidents and near misses and provide recommendations to prevent further occurrence.

Produce monthly reports on company performance in terms of accident / incident statistics, compliance with Safety Management System and Policy etc.

Key Deliverables
Assisting in writing and implementing of new procedures
Assessment of the supply chain by auditing and monitoring against set Key Performance Indicators
Assisting and writing documentation for tender submissions
Prepare, attend and deliver client presentations

Identify the role and responsibility of ISG in respect of the CDM regulations for each project and agree a course of action with the Project Team and Site Manager to satisfy these requirements.

Assisting Principal Designer where required.
Assist site management in preparation the contract health and safety plans, prior to the contract commencing, and with the site team review and plan all activities, identifying high risk activities
Identify areas and operations which require specific safety instruction and organise and undertake training in this instruction on site using permits, BPG, HSG as required

Communicate effectively with the Health and Safety Executive regarding the policy and inspections, accidents and incidents, ensuring that accidents and dangerous occurrences are reported promptly notifying the directors before engaging in commentary.

Investigate accidents/incidents as required by RIDDOR. Make known and discuss all findings/recommendations throughout the Company issuing safety alerts.

Liaise with Project Managers and Business Support Managers on contract standards and any future changes or additions to the policy and any specific areas of the policy where particular emphasis is required.

Ensure that all risk assessments required by current statute are carried out, information is displayed on the site safety board, and that effective arrangements for briefing employees on the above are implemented.

Ensure that the Project offices meet the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, and the Offices, Shops and Railway Premises Act 1963.

Ensure that office based personnel receive appropriate health, safety and environmental training and instructions.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent standard
Experience in overseeing business units with multiple projects and critical client relationships
Experience of leading and coaching a team
Experienced in the implementing health and safety strategies across wide range of complex and geographically spread projects.
Experience of high
- rise buildings and highly engineered projects
