    We are looking for an enthusiastic, creative and friendly customer focused individuals who have a passion for food and interested in a Production Chef level 2 Apprenticeship at Gloucestershire Managed Services. This is an exciting opportunity to learn new skills and become part of the Catering Services.

    Department: Catering, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

    Responsible and accountable to: Production Manager/Catering ManagerTerms of contract: GMS Apprenticeship Terms and Conditions, Fixed Term (15 months)

    Location: Catering Department, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital and rotate to Cheltenham General Hospital

    Hours hours per week; Monday to Friday

    Main duties of the job

    This apprenticeship is suitable for anyone with a desire to learn and develop their skills and knowledge within our Catering Services with a view to beginning a career in our Facilities Services and gain a Production Chef (Level 2) apprenticeship.

    Throughout the apprenticeship journey you will:

    be supported in the workplace by a mentor

    have the equivalent of a day a week 'off-the-job training' to develop your learning

    be in regular contact with the Training Provider and the Apprenticeships and Careers Team

    have access to a virtual learning platform

    attend workshops / webinars where you will have the opportunity to discuss and share

    have workplace delivery every 4 - 8 weeks

    Job responsibilities

    During the apprenticeship the apprentice will gain and apply the following knowledge, skills and behaviours:

    To produce a range of meals as per production schedules, to standard recipes and cooking methods, ensuring nutritional standards are maintained

    To ensure the correct economical use of raw ingredients to prevent over-production and food wastage, including the requisitioning of good from stores

    To assist, when required, with food service for patients and staff, ensuring continuity of service and maintain customer relations

    To assist in the function catering to specified menus and recipes to ensure high standard and contact quality of catering is achieved

    To assist in the production of a wide range of meals to standard recipes and cooking methods, participate in the development of new recipes and menus

    To ensure the correct storage of food is adhered to in accordance with the Food Hygiene Legislation to prevent food wastage and ensure correct stock rotation

    Assist in the operation of the catering systems including completion of all paperwork required for food hygiene legislation (assured safe catering)

    The completion of Temperature Monitoring Records to ensure that all foods are stored, cooked and served at the correct temperature

    Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and hygiene throughout the department in accordance with Food Hygiene Legislation, which included participating in cleaning other duties associated with keeping the catering departments hygienically clean

    To follow safety regulations and safe systems of work in the catering department to ensure compliance with Health & Safety Legislation

    -To deal with ward enquiries regarding patient meals

    Record the issue of extra meals to wards

    Learn new techniques with additional training to own skills

    Have a good understanding of the workings of other teams in relation to your own

    Exposure to heat, noise, chemical hazards, continual lifting (occasionally heavy)

    An ongoing requirement to exert moderate physical effort and frequent requirement for concentration use of recipes and food production calculations

    Have the ability to prioritise and plan own workload, utilising the production schedules working within the time frame of service delivery

    To attend regular individual personal development review to identify personal development needs in line with the Trusts aims and objectives

    Attend training as required and identified in personal development plans

    Obligation to undertake training where necessary to learn new techniques, specifically in relation to the use of specialised equipment and food service trends

    To observe and comply with Food Hygiene & Health and Safety Regulations at all times, Also to be responsible for adhering to all policies, procedures and guidelines as appropriate

    To report to a supervisor any accident/incident immediately it occurs

    -To maintain a clean, tidy and professional appearance

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • GCSE Level or equivalent Grade D(3) English, or equivalent ( Functional Skills Level 1 Literacy) and Mathematics GCSE Grade D(3) or equivalent ( Functional Skills Level 1 Numeracy)

  • Basic level of competence in the standard range of Microsoft Office applications and email programmes

  • To have a basic understanding or previous experience of working in a catering or retail environment
