Overview / Responsibilities:


Wood is looking for a forward thinking individual to become the Senior Technical Auditor, as part of the Group Audit & Risk team (GAR), delivering technical/project management components of the GAR audit programme.

Reporting directly to the Technical Audit Manager, the role contributes to the development of a culture of risk awareness throughout the organisation and may include leading other audit team members.

The role provides assurance as to the adequacy and effectiveness of the business through carrying out audits as a part of the overall Operations Excellence framework established by the ELT and Board.


Key areas of focus include:

  • Support the Technical Audit Manager, the HSSE Audit Manager and the VP Group Audit, with execution of the GAR audit programme, including the functional elements of all riskbased assurance activities.
  • Accountable for the delivery of assigned audits, which involves planning, coordination, and delivery of the technical/project management component of GAR audits. The role leads the delivery of audit reports and actively leads updates and meetings with the auditees on the delivery of GAR Operations Assurance audits and results.
  • Work alongside the other members of the GAR team to monitor and report on the effectiveness of the business, in identifying and managing risks and working with the business to identify, quantify and implement appropriate mitigations and improvements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Accountable for delivery of assigned audits or parts of audits to deadlines, which involves the planning and delivery of technical/project management audit activities.
  • Responsible for documenting audit evidence to a high standard and on a timely basis.
  • Learn from other GAR team members to develop skills and capability.
  • Responsible for acting as a key business partner to auditees and will build strategic relationships with personnel in many parts of the business.
  • Contributes to the strategic direction of the GAR audits by participating in a wide range of audit development activities.
  • Responsible for maintaining technical/quality/project management functional assurance networks to effectively share learnings and good practice internally and externally across Wood in a structured, standard, and auditable manner.
  • Participate and contribute to the GAR audit strategy.
  • Promote the creation of an organisational culture which fosters innovation and collaboration, continuous improvement, and change. Maintain a focus on strategic initiatives and developments / learnings to ensure the transfer of best practice.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with Wood senior management, Wood's clients and, where appropriate, external stakeholders e.g., Industry Technical forums.
  • Scope, execute and report on ad hoc advisory engagements, balancing with core commitments.
  • Lead by personal example and encourage all employees to conduct their activities in accordance with all applicable laws and the Group's standards and policies.

Skills / Qualifications:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in relevant technical discipline
  • Membership of a recognised industry body
  • Lead Auditor Qualification by recognised industry body
  • Root Cause Analysis trained

Knowledge, skills, and experience:

  • Good level of relevant experience in a Technical/Project Management role within a technical services business
  • Experience and demonstrated career progression in project management and technical delivery of projects, with a good understanding of quality requirements.
  • Significant experience in leading technical audits to the requirements of ISO 9001, 14001 and 4500
  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements, approach and perspectives of regulatory agencies in one or more jurisdictions.
  • Some international experience from working overseas or from time spent working on overseas assignments willingness to travel domestically and internationally on audit assignments and to engage with leadership teams or operational assurance audit team members is essential.
  • Good knowledge of legislation and regulations covering areas including Engineering Design, Project Management, Quality, Construction, Operations, Maintenance and/or Decommissioning.
  • Ability to quickly build relationships at senior levels and exercise positive influence without direct line authority.
  • High level of communication skills, written and verbal, must be a good listener. (Good planning, organisational and report writing skills).
  • Thorough knowledge of the quality management systems and associated management system standards (e.g. ISO 9001) including tools to support continuous improvement.
  • Track record of managing (where appropriate) team members who will be working remotely while out on audits and may be based in a different geography.
