    Job summary

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for fixed term (Maternity cover) Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in the Medical Retina Service at City Road and North Divisions (Ealing Site).

    The post holder will be responsible for the ongoing care and management of Medical Retina patients within the trust. The successful candidate will be expected to provide training for junior doctors and to support the further development of the Allied Health Care Professionals within the service.

    Candidates should have completed their Specialist Training in Ophthalmology, have their Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent, or be within six months of their CCT date. Candidates are required to be in possession of the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists or equivalent. The holder of this post is required to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license to practice. The successful candidate should have completed at least a year of subspecialty Medical Retina fellowship training.

    Main duties of the job

    Leadership and Team Working

    To demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams, the Trust and when participating in national or local work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team and Partners as chair regular meetings for the resolve conflict and difficult situations through negotiation and discussion, involving appropriate to Trust/departmental guidelines on leave including reporting absence.

    All doctors are responsible to maintain a portfolio of their career over the last 5 years in order to satisfy GMC Revalidation criteria. If successful, you will be required to bring along your supporting information portfolio including recent appraisals documents when joining the Trust.

    Person Specification

    EDUCATION and QUALIFICATIONS

    Essential

  • FRCOphth / MRCOphth or equivalent ophthalmic qualification.
  • CCT in Ophthalmology or equivalent ophthalmic training (or be within 6 months of CCT date).
  • Full GMC registration (with a 'Licence to Practise').
  • Be on or eligible for the GMC specialist register, or be within six months of entry.
  • Desirable

  • Higher Degree ( MD or PhD).
  • FURTHER TRAINING and KNOWLEDGE

    Essential

  • Be near to or completed Higher Specialist Training in Ophthalmology.
  • Undertaken recognised Fellowship Training in Medical Retina
  • Excellent general ophthalmic experience, including emergency care
  • Knowledge of Accident and Emergency pathways and procedures
  • Desirable

  • Should have received training in educational supervision as defined by the GMC
  • Should have received training in clinical supervision as defined by the GMC.
  • Awareness of current issues affecting the NHS & UK Higher Education & the possible associated implications for Moorfields/UCL Institute of Ophthalmology.
  • SKILLS and ABILITY

  • Audit and research skills.
  • High degree of clinical and surgical skills in oculoplastics
  • Track record of developing and submitting applications for research funding
