Job Purpose


A member of the Food Safety and Quality Team, reporting to the Food Safety and Quality Manager for Bury Customer Supply.

The purpose of the role is to provide technical support to the FSQ Manager & Customer Supply team to meet Silver spoon, Retailer and Food Safety Certification requirements.


Core Accountabilities

  • Provide accurate and timely provision of technical information to Silver Spoon and customers as required.
  • Conduct QMS and GMP compliance audits, including HACCP
  • Coordinate and conduct sampling and testing to meet customer requirements.
  • Determine the schedule and coordinate equipment calibration activity.
  • Maintain key food safety risk assessments
  • Monitor incidents of supplier failure, following up where necessary.
  • Support the operational team with Food Safety & Quality related investigations
  • Maintain all product standards and customer specifications such as Quality attribute sheets.
  • Support site Food Safety & Quality improvement action plans, projects and KPIs in order to reduce quality defects and failures and notify any Quality non compliances via the Alcumus platform
  • Support the Food Safety document control administration.
  • Support all Food Safety and Customer visits and audits and ensure all corrective actions are delivered to time, standard and quality.
  • Provide knowledge, support and coaching to Site Operations Team on Food Safety & Quality requirements and compliance in order to improve site performance, culture and behaviours.
  • Demonstrate the highest personal standards of integrity aligned to the British Sugar values and behaviours.

Skills, Knowledge & Competencies

  • Educated to a minimum of Level 3 HACCP and Level 3 Food Safety, though preferably degree level or equivalent experience
  • Experience and / or formal training in GFSI based certification systems
  • Good Understanding and experience of GMP, major multiple retailer standards and Quality Management Systems.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information effectively and efficiently
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team and to work proactively with mínimal direct guidance.
  • Well developed IT skills in respect of industry standard software and external quality systems, highly organised and able to work efficiently and accurately on administrative tasks.
