  • We are the Environment Agency, we work in partnership with government, local councils, businesses, and communities to tackle the impacts of climate change and manage the assets that protect Central London from flooding.

As part of our Projects and Contracts Management team working closely with colleagues and delivery partners, this role is vital to ensure that London's tidal flood defences continue to perform now and in the future.

This is a great opportunity to work in asset management and engineering sectors to help the Environment Agency to create a better place.


Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead & manage the delivery of Revenue/Maintenance/Facilities projects and contracts.
  • Act as a client for flood defence improvement projects along with managing our maintenance work.
  • Understand contractual terms & conditions, process, scope of work, compensation schedule, project milestones/critical path and contract administration requirement.
  • Assist team with procurement/tendering and administrative duties, comprehensive administration of the contracts and projects, ensuring all parties properly fulfil their obligations and responsibilities in a fully auditable manner.
  • Lead on procurement compliance & reporting.

£3,000 - for Incorporated Engineers with IET/IMechE
£6,000 - for CEng (Mechanical/Electrical) qualifications
£3,860 - for incident response role & Critical Infrastructure allowance at £3,000, dependent upon availability and satisfactory completion of training to join our standby team.
You may have the opportunity to join our standby teams who respond to incidents caused by tidal flooding.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do.

You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident.

This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.


  • The team
  • Our dedicated and experienced MEICA team maintain and upgrade the Thames Barrier and associated gates, together with the tidal walls and embankments, protect London from tidal flooding. Disciplines that the team's projects involve are electrical, mechanical, and civil in nature.

We work with TEAM2100, an integrated team of Environment Agency staff and key suppliers, to deliver flood defence asset management works in the Thames Estuary.


  • Experience/skills required
  • You will have knowledge in Facilities & General Engineering type contracts.
  • Understands procurement goods & services & commercial policies & procedures.
  • Be able to work to Method Statements, understand Risk Assessments.
  • Well organised, able to prioritise a varied workload and maintain attention to detail.
  • Selfmotivated and good working in a team environment and using own initiative.
  • Experience of using Microsoft products and computerised maintenance systems.


We are looking for someone to lead on various maintenance contracts and support colleagues of engineering teams to deliver on time projects.

We also need someone to take a lead on procurement and assist the team with administrative duties.

A commitment and knowledge relating to health, safety and wellbeing is a key attribute of this role.- Contact and additional information-The role is based at the Thames Barrier but will require assisting contractors and travelling to associated flood defences.

Counter terrorism security clearance (CTC) is required to work from the Thames Barrier.

Interviews will be held between 17th April 2023 and 5th May 2023 at the Thames Barrier.
