    Description

    In this Credit Underwriter role, you will acquire the maximum amount of retail business whilst providing maximum protection to the portfolio ensuring an efficient and empathetic underwriting service to the dealer network.


    Duties Include:

    • Make credit lending decisions (or recommendations where outside own mandate) on consumer and corporate proposals and where necessary, structure a proposal within personal mandate to facilitate an approval. Ensure KPI's are met (turnaround times and approval rates) whilst maintaining the quality of all decisions made.
    • Analyse all aspects of credit proposals taking into account credit and asset risk, and where necessary make direct contact with customers and professional bodies to obtain further information to support the decision making process.
    • Confidently communicate rejection decisions to dealership staff and where necessary negotiate improved proposal terms to allow a positive outcome, whilst adhering to Data Protection law.
    • Where appropriate, take responsibility for or assist in fraud investigation through the in-house system. When required, make contact with third parties to verify information and confidently speak to dealership staff to withdraw an approval when necessary.
    • Depending on personal experience, take responsibility for reviewing, assessing and countersigning proposals prepared by lower mandated underwriters. Provide coaching and mentoring through constructive guidance and feedback to assist in the development of junior colleagues.
    • Develop, manage and maintain a positive and professional business relationship with all franchised dealers and Sales personnel to facilitate achievement of departmental and company objectives.
    • Key SLA of activation time driving dealer and customer service.

    Skills Required:

    • Demonstrable retail motor finance or finance industry experience
    • Numerate and proven analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial information to facilitate strong decision-making
    • A lateral thinker with awareness of risk and potential fraud scenarios
    • Preferably knowledge of Phoenix, e-POS, Oracle, SAP and MS Office)
    • Good understanding of finance industry legislation including FCA Principles, Data Protection Act, Consumer Credit Act, SAF and Anti-Money Laundering
    • Clear, concise written and verbal communicator with good negotiation skills
    • Self-motivated with the ability to work within a pressurised environment whilst maintaining focus on personal, departmental and company objectives
    Annual Bonus and Hybrid working once passed Probationery Period.
