    Job Summary

    Role: Development Analyst

    Salary: £31K

    Hours: 37.5 Monday to Friday

    Location: St Austell, Cornwall

    The role:

    As a Development Analyst , you will provide support to the Analytical Laboratory Manager in developing new analytical method projects, setting up new instrumentation, performing analytical approved test methods and reporting results to customers.

    You will have sole responsibility for a defined part of the project with reference to an agreed programme, under consultation with the Analytical Lab Manager.

    Your main responsibilities:

    The Development Analyst will be expected to work under the guidelines laid down within the Quality Management System in order to deliver the required performance to support the company's requirements and assure accuracy, validity and timely reporting of test results, whilst being;

    • Responsible for method development and instrument set up projects at laboratory scale within a programme set out by the Analytical Laboratory Manager.
    • Able to perform test measurements at laboratory scale following Approved Test Methods signed off by the Laboratory Manager.
    • Responsible for composing drafts of new Approved Test Methods for each new project and presenting the results of the development to a wider Imerys audience.
    • Key expert in specific methodologies around the Wet Chemistry and X-Ray labs, including responsibility to resolve customer claims and to train other technicians regarding the specified methods or instruments with the support of the Analytical Lab Manager.
    • Assuring results are accurately recorded, and reported, in a timely fashion and following the agreed quality checks.
    • Contributing to the ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and other laboratory accreditation of the Analytical Section by assisting in the preparation of approved test methods, calibration lists, and other documentation.

    What we ask you in return:

    • To manage your own workload and collaborate with co-workers and Lab Manager in maintaining steady turnaround times for requested work.
    • To assure level of competence by identifying suitable training and development opportunities.
    • Work as part of a cross-functional team as necessary.
    • Ability to work to strict deadlines under pressure.
    • Communicate with sample submitters when required, regarding the aim of work required and best approach to achieve this.
    • To prepare samples for testing and carry out examinations using a variety of analytical methods.
    • To be able to work in a precise and accurate manner at all times as befits the job.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    • BSc in Chemistry, Science or Materials Science.
    • Preferred MSc in Chemistry, Science or Materials Science
    • Must have experience (minimum 3 years) working within a laboratory environment, including the safe use of laboratory equipment and chemicals
    • Experience with working with ICP-OES and ICP-MS instruments, knowledge in Mineralogy.
    • Preferred experience in Rietveld semi-quantitative analysis.
