    Description

    We are seeking a skilled and experienced Metering Engineer playing a crucial role in ensuring the accurate measurement and monitoring of water usage.

    The Metering Engineer will contribute to the efficiency of our operations, installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting water meters to provide reliable water services to our clients and the public.

    Due to the nature of the role, flexibility and reactivity for field support at short notice are essential.
    Obtain accurate readings from water meters.

    • Collaborate with office-based project teams to identify optimal locations for meter probe installations, conducting site assessments to determine efficient and effective probe placement.
    • Identify suitable locations for ultrasonic meter installations, considering factors such as water flow patterns, accessibility, and system requirements.
    • Work closely with the project team to coordinate meter exchange activities, developing and following a systematic schedule to minimize service disruptions and ensure timely replacements.
    • Undertake valve operations as needed for meter installations, maintenance, or repairs, ensuring proper functioning and addressing issues promptly.
    • Conduct in-depth diagnostic analysis of data failure issues, determining root causes, and implementing corrective measures to restore data transmission functionality. Conduct thorough field inspections to identify and record makes, models, fittings, and accessories of existing water meters. Maintain detailed records for a comprehensive inventory database.
    • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for access to confined spaces, ensuring the safety of those involved in metering operations.
    Level 3 diploma in Plumbing or technical training/certification in metering technology or a related field.

    • CSCS / SMSTS / SSSTS qualification would be an advantage.
    • EUSR Water Hygiene and SHEA Water qualifications would be an advantage (training can be given).
    • NRSWA qualification is required (training can be given).
    • Valve operations, including CALM Networks, are required (training can be given).
    • Excellent IT knowledge, including software, PDA/Tablet use, and online reporting software.
    • Full, clean UK driving license.
    • Proven experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of water meters within the water industry or similar.
    • Excellent knowledge of MEICA practices associated with working on or near assets.
    • Strong technical proficiency in metering equipment, including the ability to install, calibrate, and troubleshoot various water meters.
    • Competency in using software programs for data collection, analysis, and reporting.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and address issues related to meter performance and data transmission.
    • Strong awareness of safety protocols and a commitment to adhering to safety guidelines, particularly in confined space entry and other potentially hazardous situations.
    • Capacity to conduct thorough risk assessments and prioritize safety in all job activities.
