Registered Nurse - Cardiff, United Kingdom - Swansea Bay University Health Board
Description
Job overview
PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM STAFF CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY SWANSEA BAY UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD
Working as part of the clinical team, the Retrieval and Transfer Practitioner (RTP) will provide support, care and necessary clinical interventions to patients in both the hospital and transfer environment, using appropriate skills and equipment safely and within appropriate level of training, competency and scope of practice.
This position combines a role within a patient-facing clinical transfer team, with some time spent working independently from the clinical team in triaging, co-ordinating and scheduling transfer requests. Access to an on-call 'top cover' consultant for clinical advice is available for both aspects of the role, which is also supported by bespoke scheduling software.
RTPs are registered practitioners who have undergone additional post registration education and clinical development to assess and manage critically ill patients with specific or specialised care needs throughout the transfer and retrieval phase of their care. The RTP has extensive experience of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised person-centred care for adult patients in the critical care unit setting.
Successful candidates will be deployed within this role as part of a multidisciplinary team configuration: predominantly by road, but also on occasion by air. Therefore, the role requires the practitioner to be able to operate comfortably and effectively in these environments and undergo further training applicable to these aspects of the role.
Main duties of the job
Following a period of pre-operational induction training and supernumerary shifts, participate in timely response to transfer requests from the critical care network made via the EMRTS Critical Care Hub (ECCH).
Practitioners will also be required to participate in the Duty Transfer Co-Ordinator Rota: acting as first point of contact for referring units to discuss cases and place transfer requests.. You will also participate in multidisciplinary handover in the referring unit, taking responsibility for the patients ongoing nursing care needs throughout the transfer.
Practitioners will have the opportunity to Participate in the training of fellow operational team members, newly recruited operational team members and any trainee who undertakes shifts in a training role.
