    Are you a Cancer care nurse with a good understanding of haematology? Do you want to be part of a service transformation and looking for a new challenge?

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and dynamic nurse to join our Haematology Ambulatory Unit as a Band 6 Sister/Charge Nurse. This job will also involve some working within our inpatient ward.

    We are an expanding service dedicated to developing a strong nursing team, in an exciting specialised area. Our team is enthusiastic, innovative, well-motivated and dedicated to high standards of care. The team provides patient centred, holistic care to patients . The procedures undertaken includes stem cell return, blood transfusions and various systemic anti-cancer treatments . The service is always evolving, forthcoming developments include our new Rosemere House for Ambulatory patients.

    We are looking for an experienced nurse with a passion to provide excellent care for our haematology patients and the vision to develop and enhance the service.

  • To participate and lead in audits and projects within the unit to monitor protocols and staff education.
  • To monitor and risk assess the task load and patient care.

    Job responsibilities

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • You will be assessing complex health and well-being needs of the patients during their visits to the unit.
  • You will need to be able to make decisions autonomously when running the unit.
  • You will be responsible for delivering any chemotherapy the patient is due within the setting and also commencing their ambulatory chemotherapy pumps for them to take home with them.
  • You will be responsible for patient education surrounding care of the CADD device to ensure patients are confident in terms of basic troubleshooting whilst at home.
  • To offer advice over telephone consults with patients should they require any assistance whilst at home and direct them to suitable point of contact if required.
  • Following templates, you will plan the patients visits and highlight any problems to the medical team.
  • You will be responsible for checking patients blood results and assessing whether they need blood products during their visit.
  • To attend the NHS BT Blood Authorisation course to facilitate prescribing blood products on the unit.
  • To communicate with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to plan and facilitate care plans based on individual patient needs.
  • To utilise haematology knowledge to develop the service provision to benefit patients.
  • You will be required to communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients and relatives.
  • You will be required to complete Holistic needs assessments at regular intervals.
  • You will be responsible for developing and sustaining your own knowledge, clinical skills and professional awareness for your CPD.
  • Be accountable for and ensure own competence in practice.
  • Identify potential risks for staff, patients and visitors and adhere to relevant incident reporting procedures.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and monitoring of nursing practice standards, guidelines, protocols, policies and care pathways.
  • Deliver care based on current evidence, best practice and validated research whilst adhering to local policies and procedures.
  • Work with Practice Development Nurse to review nursing practice, implementing appropriate changes following audits completed within the unit.
  • Ensure a welcoming, caring and safe environment is provided for the patient and their family and visitors.
  • Participate in audit processes for monitoring and reviewing nursing quality.
  • Manage allocated resources effectively and efficiently.
  • Supervise and support team members whilst prioritising workload safely.
  • Highlighting any concerns regarding patient suitability to the patients CNS and consultant.
  • You will need to assist in managing stock- utilising space and rotating stock to ensure minimal wastage.
