    Default job background
    Part time
    Description

Hymers College, a leading independent day school in East Yorkshire, is seeking to appoint an outstanding Teacher of Business, or Teacher of Business & Economics, with the required ability to teach GCSE Business Studies and A Level Business.

The ability to teach A Level Economics should be detailed in the accompanying letter of application, though is not an essential requirement of the appointment.

Senior School teaching follows a two-week timetable and every effort will be made to schedule the 0.5 part-time teaching commitment into no more than 6 days across the 10-day teaching cycle.

However, constraints may require a teaching commitment on full or part-days on as many as 7 days across the 10-day cycle.

This role would suit an experienced teacher with a proven record of success or a more recently qualified teacher, in a school where teachers are enthusiastic practitioners of their subject and have a strong sense of community.

In either case, you will strive to be innovative and highly committed, and keen to communicate your love of the subject both in your lessons and beyond the timetable.

All teaching within the Business & Economics Department is at Key Stages 4 and 5: students can opt for GCSE Business Studies (Edexcel) and Economics (AQA) and/or Business (AQA) at A Level.

The department's popularity and the wider strong health of the school roll means that in the academic year , there will be 4 teaching groups of GCSE Business Studies (around 24 students per group) in each of Years 10 and 11, with 6 groups across Year 12 and 13 and the two A Level courses (with around 10 students per group).

Students demonstrate high levels of interest in their studies within the department and results in public examinations are consistently strong: the average grade has been 7.1 since the transition to numerical GCSE/IGCSE grades and, at A Level, approximately 50% of grades have been A*/A over the last 3 years.

Value-added scores are consistently significantly positive at both GCSE and A Level.

Teaching and Learning within the department is extremely strong and is characterised by teachers' outstanding subject knowledge, both of the subjects taught and of the curriculum and their external assessment.

Across the curriculum and at both GCSE and A Level, outstanding Teaching and Learning is supported by a significant number of staff being external markers for examination boards in their respective subjects.

Teachers within the Business & Economics Department make a significant, positive contribution to the co-curricular offering that is crucial to the School's ethos and the personal development of the students.

The department runs the £10 Challenge with Year 7 and 8 students, a highlight of the calendar, and has also guided teams of students to great local and national success in the Young Enterprise Competition.

Successful staff will become part of the vibrant Hymers College teaching life.

Opportunities in the co-curricular delivery of clubs and societies to enthusiastic students add an extremely fulfilling aspect to the job and one difficult to replicate in other schools.

Candidates will have achieved an excellent degree level in Business or Economics and have a recognised post-graduate teaching qualification.

There is scope to support the Continuing Professional Development of an outstanding teacher.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an ability to relate effectively withstudents, particularly those in Years 7-13, have high levels of enthusiasm, energy and drive, a sense of humour, and be flexible in their approach and enjoy working as part of a team.

Excellent organisational, time-management, and good ICT skills are essential.
The Deputy Head (Management), Mr Robert Wright, would be delighted to discuss the School or answer any questions over the phone or by email contact at
Hymers College has its own salary scale.

Applications close at 12pm on Friday 3 May with interviews scheduled for Friday 10 May. Early emailed applications are encouraged.

Hymers College is committed to attracting and retaining the very best staff, ensuring that the staff community reflects the diversity of students and local community.

We encourage applications from a diverse field of candidates. The appointment will be made on merit, following a fair and transparent process.
Hymers College is committed to safeguarding and the wellbeing of all children and young people within its care. All appointments are subject to satisfactory pre-employment checks as per the Independent Schools Inspectorate Regulations. N.B.
