  • Are you interested in developing and delivering projects to help and support our communities in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly become more resilient to flooding and the effects of coastal change?

In this role you will work as part of a team of flood risk, engineering, and environmental specialists to determine viable options and solutions to address current and future flood risks.

These risks come from the sea, rivers and streams in both urban and rural areas.

You will work closely with our asset management teams in communities where we already have flood defences, and with other internal teams' to make our communities more resilient to the future risks of a changing climate.

This will include making large scale changes to our current approach.

You will help to decide how we reduce the risk of flooding to communities across Devon and Cornwall in the face of a changing climate.

The role will include forming links with external partners, community groups and cross-business working.
The role will need you to develop outline business cases for our capital investment programme.

Projects will vary in scale based on the community and you will have the opportunity to see some projects through to delivery, working as part of our Integrated Delivery Team, which includes our project managers, framework consultants and contractors.

In this role you will be expected to provide technical leadership including the mentoring and coaching of others with the support of the Senior Advisors in your team.

When delivering projects on our capital programme as a Senior User you will be supported by a community of like-minded professionals to ensure you continue to grow and develop new skills.

  • The team
  • You will be part of the Project, Development and Delivery team who focus on delivering Environment Agency flood and coastal risk management projects. This is a new team within our flood and coastal risk management department in Devon and Cornwall.

We are a friendly, passionate and supportive team, who work closely with other area and national teams to make a positive difference for people and environment locally.


  • Experience/skills required
  • As an Advisor in the team, you will need to be comfortable in leading on the development and delivery of projects. Our current team has a diverse skill set and we welcome new skills to increase our ability to support the successful delivery of flood and coastal risk management projects with multiple benefits.

Working with technical data and information is important and you will have a good ability to assess and interpret a range of information to help inform decision making.

Technical skills in various areas including civil engineering, asset management, hydraulic modelling, coastal processes, economics, five case business model development, partnership funding and innovation would be an advantage.

You will need excellent communication skills with the ability to digest and clearly disseminate information to others.

You will work collaboratively with internal staff and partners and have good influencing skills to support the development of new opportunities.

A full UK driving licence is needed as site work is required for this role and for attending meetings.
