We are an enthusiastic and adaptable Acute Medicine team of 10 consultants with a variety of specialist interests.

We are looking to expand our workforce to ensure we can continue to develop our front door services with collaboration with the CCG, and specialty partners to create a sustainable, resilient and coherent front door medical service.


Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in both the AMU and Same Day Emergency Care areas and a specialty area if desired.

Job purpose

Integral to the responsibilities of the post are the following requirements:

  • To ensure the provision of a first class clinical service
  • To provide effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty
  • To sustain and develop teaching (including SIM) and research wherever appropriate
  • To undertake all work in accordance with the Trust's procedures and operating policies
  • To conduct clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of the Trust's and Division's service plans
  • To support the delivery of business plans and development strategies formulated for the specialty, the Diagnostic and Specialties Division or the Trust.
Clinical responsibilities

  • To share responsibility for the organisation and delivery of high quality care to the patients presenting to the Unscheduled Care areas
  • To work with other departments including Critical Care to ensure timely responses for patients deteriorating on the wards.
  • To assess and review patients and perform procedures as required
  • To support the clinical decision making of junior medical and nursing staff
  • To ensure timely and effective communication with primary care colleagues, including using the Trust's electronic discharge summary system.
  • To provide on call support out of hours. To attend the Department out of hours as per agreed protocols. To remain contactable and available when on call.
