Description
Your main duties and responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to the following areas:

  • Work with students who have been identified as being 'At Risk,' using appropriate interventions to enable them to achieve. Target course teams with poorest retention and achievement; identify any casual factors and work with Head of Faculty to eliminate them.
  • Provide initial support for students presenting issues that may impact on their success. Signpost and support students on to more specific support mechanisms as appropriate.
  • Keep a weekly check on attendance and punctuality patterns of students at risk, implement and record interventions.
  • Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Head of Faculty and course teams to enable retention interventions to have rapid, high impact across College.
  • Attend weekly departmental meetings, provide information about 'Students at Risk' indicating the impact of intervention support. Use 'Assess Plan Do Review' target sheets to record identified difficulties and measures to support learning. Review Action Plans monthly or more frequently as required.
  • Work towards improvement targets for attendance rates of 'At Risk' students.
  • Work towards targets for the reduction in withdrawal of 'At Risk' students.
  • Work towards targets to increase student satisfaction and improve the success of students.
  • Utilise data management systems and reports, ensuring clear and accurate data is available for course teams to access in order to maximise a collaborative approach to improving retention.
  • Liaise with administrators regarding the notification of student absence/lateness.
  • Utilise data management reports to update Head of Faculty with student attendance/retention case situations across programmes within the Directorate.
  • Work with curriculum teams to optimise retention by:
  • implementing early interventions (at entry and at 6-week review) to ensure recruitment/transfer onto correct courses and levels;
- ensuring that curriculum teams are fully conversant with retention strategies being applied.
