JOB OVERVIEW


Here at LJMU International Study Centre, we pride ourselves on providing a supportive learning experience that prepares our students for the challenges of undergraduate and postgraduate study.

We provide excellent academic and English skills and knowledge that will enable our international students to progress onto their chosen programme of study at the University and an eventual successful career.

This role will involve supporting students through their whole student journey from induction through to progression into the University, so if you are passionate about changing lives through opportunities in global education and are fully committed to providing a fantastic student experience, this role is for you

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support with the creation and delivery of student success tutorials.
  • Provide individualised holistic academic support to students on a 1:1 basis.
  • Track student performance and liaise promptly with the academic team to identify suitable intervention strategies.
  • Track VLE analytics and gather data on work completion to identify gaps and actions for students.
  • Contact students with poor attendance to monitor and intervene with any welfare concerns, providing ongoing, holistic support.
  • Work with the Student Experience Officer to develop and deliver sessions on a range of themes to encourage wellbeing and engagement with all aspects of the student journey.
  • Support the Welfare Officer with welfare cases and offer pastoral support to students (in line with centre policy).
  • Support students in actively taking care of their mental and physical health.
  • Provide pastoral care and coaching to students with welfare and health issues, advising accordingly and maintaining accurate student records, in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of students, with particular regard for those under 1
  • Provide administrative support to the Designated Safeguarding Lead and Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead with managing caseloads, handling sensitive and confidential information, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Work with the welfare team to produce and develop a robust pastoral programme for students.
  • Contribute to the collaborative and empathetic working style at the centre and promote a cohesive work ethic.
  • Share best practice and contribute to the bank of effective resources/ideas/activities for progression and pastoral support.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in a student support setting, ideally with international students, or other similar settings (Essential)
  • Experience in providing advice and guidance to others (Essential)
  • Experience and understanding of safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students (Essential)
  • Experience and understanding of compliance requirements in an academic setting (Desirable)
  • Strong IT skills specifically Microsoft Office are essential as well as experience working with record management systems (Essential)
  • Minutetaking and recordkeeping skills (Desirable)
  • Experience in supporting students or clients through welfarerelated concerns e.g, lowlevel mental health, homesickness, and family issues (Desirable)
