Assistant Financial Controller

The ideal Assistant Financial Controller will have sound knowledge of Financial Statements with combined accounting knowledge. Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role in Law or Professional Services. Qualifications in ACA/CIMA or ACCA and workingin a High performing Finance Team are imperative.

Acknowledgement of travelling to other offices around the UK when required as well as being flexible on taking holiday to adhere to business needs.

Duties/Responsibilities of the Assistant Financial Controller

  • Understanding of Financial system and key metrics
  • Implementing and improving control and processes
  • Work closely with CFO and Financial Controller with tasks set


  • Management Reporting

  • Producing monthly reports, firm and business forecasting, Control of Investments, maintain company books and reconciliation, working with Assistant Management Accountant to post journals and again working with AMA to produce key KPIreports in line with companies proposals.
  • Liaise with Assistant Management Accountants with posting journals
  • Collaborate on improving month to month procedures to scale procedures
  • Maintain books of sister company and bank recs


  • Year end reports

  • Drafts of financial statements and for subsidiary companies
Collaborate with the Financial Controller with annual reports for partners

  • Annual Planning 3 Year plan working alongside the Financial Controller, collating data to produce initial draft of Profits and Losses.
  • Work closely with your Ops Directors and your own team to prepare budgets
  • Supporting again the Financial Controller with providing supplementary analysis when called upon.


  • Treasury Management

  • Prepare a Cashflow report month on month discussing any discrepancies
  • Keeping track of any Foreign Exchange rates to make sure the foreign currency is settled
  • Making sure to track the bank interest rates to max the returns


  • VAT and Tax

  • Help senior Tax Manager with any analysis and queries
  • VAT return and VAT payments are in line and no penalties are generated
Experience/Skills of the Assistant Financial Controller

  • Be from a Senior Management Accountant role or similar
  • Be Resilient, adaptable and take the initiative
  • Be able to build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • Sound knowledge on compile monthly reports, forecasting and financial statements
  • Financial Data analysis and be able to prepare statements for decision makers
  • VAT and being able to manage submitting
  • Multitasking and leadership qualities
  • Strong Excel a must with word and PowerPoint
  • Logical, thorough, and systematic with how they go about their work.
