    JOB SUMMARY:

    We are currently seeking a Plant Operator based at our Knockmore Hill site in Lisburn (Northern Ireland) to help lead our global power generation company into the future. The successful applicant will have experience of operating a similar facility, with either a background in either mechanical, electrical or ICA engineering.

    KEY RESPONSABILITIES

  • Under minimal supervision, ensure safe, reliable and commercially sound operation of the combined heat and power plant on a 24-hour shift basis via a SCADA control system.
  • Monitor and operate five GEJ reciprocating gas engines, with a total electrical capacity of 15 MW and associated equipment.
  • Monitor and operate the carbon dioxide production unit, absorption chillers and exhaust gas boilers.
  • Make plant load related and other operational decisions according to the relevant standard operating procedures
  • Ensure proper housekeeping in the plant, including the cleaning of the site and equipment.
  • Monitoring automated chemical analysis equipment and performing basic chemical analyses for the assurance of the quality of carbon dioxide.
  • Complete routine operational and maintenance checks
  • Respond to plant alarms and adverse operational conditions to ensure high availability of the plant. Carry out diagnostic checks to resolve the condition or to escalate to specialist contractor.
  • Respond remotely via laptop and internet connection to plant status messages or to return to the plant on a call out basis (as part of a rota) if status cannot be resolved remotely
  • Keeping accurate electronic and paper logs and records to comply with the company's internal systems and procedures and the local/national rules, regulations as well as all the company's recording commitments for Environmental and Food Safety Management Systems.
  • Supervise specialist contractors in the performance of routine contracted services and breakdown maintenance. This includes defining work scope, ensuring safety from the system (LOTO), setting the contractor to work, issuing spare parts, monitoring productivity/quality of work and signing time sheets
  • Comply with all Health, Safety and Environment standards and procedures on site. Oversee the off-loading of plant equipment and bulk deliveries including the operation of forklift truck
  • Comply with industry health, safety and environmental working practices and regulations
    locate, and rectify faults on plant and equipment.
  • Communicate with and provide information to stakeholders in line with personal role and responsibilities
    read, understand and interpret information and work in compliance with technical specifications, health, safety, environmental and food safety procedures and supporting documentation.
  • Prepare work areas to undertake work related activities and reinstate those areas after the completion of the work-related activities.
  • Inspect and maintain appropriate plant and equipment to meet operational requirements.
  • Assess and test the performance and condition of plant and equipment
  • Communicate, handover and confirm that the appropriate engineering process has been completed to specification.
  • Able to perform effectively as part of a team or lone working.
  • Strong initiative and ability to autonomously manage workload.
  • Health and Safety

  • Maintaining a healthy and safe environment in accordance with company standards.
  • Performing the Operation and Maintenance Procedures for all the equipment and machinery.
  • Ability to read and refer to the company's policies and procedures.
  • To comply with PPE policy of the company.
  • Operate and maintain the Permit (LOTO) system to ensure the safety of CG personnel and contractors working on site.
  • Monitor and control Confined Space, Hot Working and Electrical Work Permits.
  • Complete or obtain method statements and risk assessments for all new work and comply with existing MS and RAs for all routine work.
  • Complete regular health and safety inspections and audits.
  • QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS:

  • Tertiary level qualification and recognised engineering apprenticeship for Power Plant Operator or Mechanical/Electrical/ICA engineer
  • At least 3 years of operational and/or maintenance experience in an industrial environment.
  • Ideally, the candidate will have a knowledge of generating unit operation, engineering and maintenance practices.
  • Experience of Health & safety practises (such as LOTO)
  • Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams, procedures and technical manuals.
  • Technical operational problem solving.
  • Effective communication & escalation skills.
  • Competence in use of MS Office tools.
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to work unsupervised with highest level of ethics and personal responsibility.
  • Demonstrable commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
  • Root cause analysis, examining failures and reporting skills.
  • Ability to supervise contractors in the performance of routine contracted services and breakdown maintenance.
  • This position reports hierarchically to Plant Manager.
