We are seeking a talented journalist or a
graduate with a proven aptitude for writing and/or journalism to join our team on a full time (35 hours per week), 12 month FTC - maternity cover.

Crawley, West Sussex - office based minimum 2 days per week

MCA is a web-first operation (with a monthly PDF digital edition).

As a news reporter for MCA, you will be producing breaking news, exclusives, analysis, insight, profiles and interviews with industry figures, cover new openings and report on executive people moves.


You will have the exciting opportunity to attend industry events, restaurant openings, conferences and dinners, while you build a strong network of senior industry contacts in order to ensure exclusive news, interviews and event appearance for our industry-leading conference programme.


Please note:

While the role is a 12-month FTC (maternity cover), there may be opportunity for a permanent role elsewhere in the company.

**What you will be doing as an MCA News Reporter: - Break news and populate the MCA website with fresh content on a daily basis

  • Send out a daily newsletter, to be shared with the small editorial team of editor and deputy editor
  • Examine financial accounts and identify angles for news items, analysis and interview questions
  • Assess data insights from the key providers and identify relevant angles for editorial content
  • Develop and deliver indepth analysis and features examining brands and trends within the industry
  • Write indepth interviews, profiles and news analysis pieces for our newsletter and monthly digital edition
  • Network and build contacts with key industry figures, attend events, openings, and generate content
  • Embrace multimedia, using social media to push and promote MCA content
  • Contribute ideas and planning of content for editorial coverage and events and encourage new ideas and activity
  • Attend MCA and external events and conferences, contributing to events ideas

Requirements:


What you'll need:


  • Experience in a fastpaced newsgathering environment, such as regional, national or B2B media, is preferred
  • Demonstrable digital and social media skills.
  • A head for news and the determination to secure exclusives
  • Fluency, interest and understanding in business, industry and finance
  • An appreciation of the hospitality industry, its current pressures and the key brands within it
  • Ability to perform effectively in highpressure situations; hardworking and selfmotivated; excellent writing skills.
  • Comfortable networking and engaging with CEOlevel contacts to secure news and interviews
  • Enthusiasm to develop an understanding of the key concerns and interests of senior leaders in order to craft relevant questions and compelling copy for our subscribers
  • Multimedia skills digital publishing, social media, video publishing
  • Willing to be flexible with shared team starts of 7am.
