    About the role

    This is an opportunity for a motivated research assistant (part-time) to join the Mitchison Lab, a leading ciliopathy fertility research team, in developing the first single cell based molecular characterization of the efferent duct, to explore its role and dysfunction in motile ciliopathy disorders. The position is initially for 33 weeks part-time, working 4 days/week, funded by the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council. The project will focus on in vitro validation of a primary cell culture method for efferent duct and characterising the structure and function of the efferent duct ciliated epithelium, using a variety of markers tested at transcript and protein level. The successful applicant is expected to have experience in molecular biology and methodologies relevant to the field, including cell culture, RT-qPCR, immunostaining, imaging, quantification and Western blotting. Experience with protein pull-downs, flow cytometry and animal work would be an advantage.

    The successful applicant will join a leading cilia research team engaged in rare disease research with a focus on conditions that arise from motile cilia dysfunction. The role requires a team work focused attitude to development of novel biological data, the production and presentation/reporting of high quality molecular data, and the aptitude to work on new methods independently after training.
