    World Sailing, the world governing body for the sport of sailing, is seeking a dedicated and skilled Development Intern to join our team.

    Job role: Development Intern (One year placement)

    Reporting to: Development Manager

    Posted: May 2024

    Location: Based at World Sailing headquarters in London, UK/hybrid, and some international travel requirements

    Starting: 2 September 2024

    Salary Range: £25-28k

    Background

    World Sailing is the world governing body for the sport of sailing, officially recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). As an International Federation, World Sailing is responsible for promoting the sport, managing sailing at the Olympic and Paralympic Games, and the regulation and development of the sport worldwide.

    The principle members of World Sailing are the 147 Member National Authorities (MNAs) and more than 100 Class Associations within the sport.

    Our mission is to make sailing more exciting and accessible for everyone to participate or watch and use our reach and influence to create a sustainable future for our sport and the waters of the world.

    This role requires a passion and drive for improving the sport of sailing. You will work to implement the World Sailing Training and Development Strategy, working with all of World Sailing's Member National Authorities.

    You will support a number of key development projects alongside the Development Manager, taking ownership of key reporting and logistical aspects of projects. You will need strong organisational skills and be able to manage a number of different workstreams at once. The role holder would have a passion for Sports Development and want to have a lasting impact on sailing.

    This varied role will see you work with athletes, coaches, administrators and development professionals to deliver a variety of World Sailing programs and activities. You will be required to have excellent customer service skills and a can-do approach. The role will see a very varied workload with the possibility of some international travel.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Development and Maintenance of the World Sailing Coaches Database, including adding all previous Technical Courses and maintaining records from new courses.
    • Support with Olympic Solidarity applications and logistics for Technical Courses for Coaches
    • Assist with the development of course structures and content for Olympic Solidarity funded training programs and World Sailing Courses.
    • Ownership of the Training and Development Website section, including updating content and imagery to attract readers.
    • Develop and support the Development and Regions Committee with a series of webinars covering a range of development topics.
    • Support to increase the number of Participation and Development news and social media activity.
    • Maintain a detailed log of candidate specific feedback for all IOC Olympic Solidarity funded World Sailing Training and Development programs.
    • Support the logistical operation of the Youth World Championships Emerging Nations Program including travel booking, transfer logistics and branding.
    • Handle enquiries received through the central Training Mailbox
    • To ensure administrative systems, processes and databases are efficient and well managed.
    • To review and monitor the effectiveness of all relevant promotional material with the Commercial Team, ensuring it is up to date and fit for purpose.
    • To assist in the uploading of content to the Online Learning Platform
    • Other duties as identified by the Development Manager

    Personal Attributes & Experience

    • Currently undertaking an undergraduate degree in Sports/International Development or other relevant field.
    • Keen interest in Sports Development
    • Excellent administration, organisation, and project management skills
    • Awareness of programs to work with underrepresented groups
    • An interest in sailing
    • Fluent in English (written and spoken) (a second language is a strong asset)
    • Excellent command of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint. etc.)

    Travel & Other Requirements

    • There may be some requirements to travel internationally to support the delivery of programs, this would be discussed with the postholder when opportunities arise.
    • Other event support as and when required.
