Secure Care Officers for their secure Youth Offender Site in Milton Keynes.

Purpose of Role

The purpose of this role is to care for, support and provide stability for the young offenders. They have been sentenced and detained for various crimes and need that mentor figure to address their offending behaviours. You must treat them with respect and fairly, whilst promoting anti offending behaviour and the safeguarding of their welfare in line with legislation, contractual and company requirements.

This role requires the ability to deal with vulnerable and difficult detainees whilst maintaining high standards of care, security and service deliver. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are vital. A strong, working understanding of Inclusion, Diversity and Safeguarding is also essential to this role. After probation, you will become a Key Worker and work alongside designated young persons and join them on their journey, becoming a key part of their rehabilitation.


The site is a Young Offender Unit/Secure Training Centre, caring, educating and building bonds with adolescents who have been detained and will be working towards being resettled and rehabilitated.

The daily routine consists of helping to create a safe, secure environment for these young people.

Not only that, but you will also be helping create an atmosphere of trust for these adolescents so that you are seen as someone they go to in need of emotional support.

Working directly with the children on a daily basis in a secure prison type environment, your responsibilities will include
:Motivate, support and care for children to provide a stable and secure educational and residential environment which promotes anti-offending behaviour to develop life skills, manage their own behaviour and enhance their effective resettlement on release Building mutual trust and respect with the children so that they respond positively and appropriately to information and guidance
Defining structures and boundaries, and role-modelling positive behaviours, to set clear expectations of the children in our care Monitoring and managing the behaviour of the children to minimise incidents and improve standards of behaviour
