    Description

    We, in Brayton and ThorpeWilloughby, are committed to enabling as many people as possible to discoverand learn about the love of God by reaching into the community through evangelismand Christian service and by ensuring our church community is a welcoming placefor all.

    We believe the time is rightto spread the word and teachings of Christ in new ways, enabling our church togrow and flourish in God's name.

    Inspire fresh thinking andnew ideas to attract the local community by offering a balance of traditionaland contemporary approaches to worship, with a range of musical provision andstyles.

    Grow the presence of youngfamilies by exploring ways to reach these children and young families through'Fresh Expressions', and developing missional opportunities within thecommunity, including our work in the local schools.

    Reaffirm our mission to theparish by supporting our community through the pastoral care of our LayMinistry Team, our Community Lunches, craft groups, Mother's Union, and thedistribution of our Parish Magazine, 'Connected'.

    Sharing the mission as a joint venturethrough our Local Ecumenical Partnership with our Methodist friends.

    particularly in making the interior warmer,more welcoming and flexible, and by developing the use of newly-installedaudio-visual system to improve our sound and hearing loop and to facilitate projectionand live streaming.

    Continue to explore ways todevelop the joint Anglican-Methodist church building in Thorpe Willoughby.

    Services across both churches each Sunday,with a choice of genre, from traditional Communion, to Celtic Communion, Lay ledmorning prayer and café style 'Fresh Expressions, though some are sadlysuspended since our previous incumbent left.

    Strong links with 2 C of E Primary Schools inBrayton and Barlow, with Longman's Hill Community Primary, Thorpe WilloughbyPrimary and Brayton Academy.

    A previously well established 'FreshExpressions' ministry to children, young people and families, with the veryinformal service, Friday FunClub, for pre-schoolers and carers, 'The Zone' youth group and 'Refresh'women's bible study, suspended since key leaders moved away.

    A church hall at St Wilfrid's and a moreflexible building and halls at St Francis', used by the community as well asthe church.

    A strongtradition of music in our churches, enjoying both traditional and contemporaryhymns and worship songs. Inspire young families with the gospel and encourageus to find innovative ways to make the Gospel relevant to our community

    Rejuvenate and create new fresh expressions ofchurch to help us reach area of our community we are not in contact with.

    Be a leader and facilitator, experienced in leadingchange and able to apply it to our church and community setting.

    Find an appropriate balance of traditional andinformal worship, whilst bringingthe generations together in church as a worshipping community

    Help us to reconsider the church interior ofSt Wilfrid's to best use the building as a centre of mission and ministry inour community and continue the work to develop the church building in ThorpeWilloughby.

    Brayton, and ThorpeWilloughby are both large semi-rural villages to the south of Selby. The areahas good local amenities and transport links, plus the beautiful ancientwoodland of Brayton Barff.

    Housing being more affordable than in many areas, the villages arepopular with young families and there have been significant building developmentsover the past 10 years, with a population now of almost 10,000.

    Has a diverse experience of worshipping stylesand able to relate to different church traditions across the Deanery.
    Can identify local needs and the innovationsrequired to make the most of the particular opportunities each local contextaffords.

    Help to provide training and support for laypeople in the parishes, both for those in existing roles and in developing newministries, that is local, contextual and adaptable.

    Streamline structures and provide moreeffective support for one another within and across parishes through pastoralre-organisation that reduces the number of PCCs and statutory roles and createsmore opportunities for sharing ministries and training in discipleship
    as well asareas of deprivation in some of our urban and smaller rural and coastalcommunities.

    Ourdiocesan teams provide a wide range of support services to our mission andministry, including lifelong learning for ministry, the care of churchbuildings, and safeguarding.

    We want to be a simpler, bolder, humbler church whichin its diversity reflects the communities it serves.

    Our approach is aligned witha commitment to the best of our parochial inheritance and to the poorest communities,and to the financial realities we face.
