    Job summary

    St Johns Group Practice are looking to recruit a highly motivated , enthusiastic & resilient Heath Care Assistant to join our practice Nursing Team.

    Duties to include Phlebotomy, ECG, BP, Health Checks and up to Tier 3 Wound Care. Spirometry and ear syringing would is desirable but not essential as training can be provided.

    The role is part time hours between 16-25 hours to be worked over 5 days between the hours of 8am - 6pm according to practice needs.

    Previous experience working in a healthcare setting as a health care assistant is essential involving recent phlebotomy experience. Applicants must hold a qualification in English and Maths (GCSE Grade A-C or Grade 4-9). To be IT literate is essential.

    Flexibility, good team working skills, coupled with the ability to work efficiently unsupervised is essential, along with the desire to deliver and outstanding patient experience.

    You must have exceptional communication skills including listening.

    Main duties of the job

    Duties:

    Assist healthcare professionals with various tasks, such astaking vital signs, recording patient information.

    Provide basic patientcare in a friendly approachable manner.

    Perform phlebotomyprocedures to collect blood samples for testing

    Assist with specimens and sending to the laboratory.

    Provide wound care up to Tier 2/3 based on the Doncasterwound care Alliance.

    Utilise basic lifesupport techniques in emergency situations

    -Demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology and accurately document patientinformation

    Organisation in ordering and stocking up the supplies.

    Adhere to aseptic techniques to prevent infection transmission

    Responsible for ordering and stock checking.

    Delivery of Health Promotion eg smoking cessation, diet , exercise and alcohol.

    Housekeeping Duties.

    Skills:

    Strong understanding of physiology and its application in patient care

    Proficient in phlebotomy techniques for blood collection

    Familiarity with laboratory procedures and specimen collection methods

    Knowledge of basic life support techniques for emergency situations

    Excellent grasp of medical terminology for accurate documentation

    Experience working with paediatric patients, providing age-appropriate care

    Skilled in maintaining aseptic technique to prevent infection transmission

    Previous experience working in a general practice setting is preferred

    Emis trained desirable but full training will be provided.

    About us

    We are a friendly practice caring for up to 10,000 patients. This role will integrate with a well established nursing and health care assistant team to offer support to the wider clinical team.

    We have 3 GP Partners, Salaried GPs, Registrars, 4 Practice Nurses, Nursing Associate and an apprentice HCA. We also have Pharmacists and a great admin/ reception Team.

    We are a training Practice so we have student Doctors and Nurses.

    Job responsibilities

    To provide Health Care Assistant (HCA) services to the practice population(s). Will work under indirect supervision of the practice nurse team leader supported by the nursing team within the practice, the Health Care Assistant (HCA) will deliver treatment and care within the boundaries of their role and in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols as delegated. Responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills in clinical decision making within the parameters of their qualifications and role requirements. They will focus upon supporting patients to be healthy by assessing their needs, providing HCA care, health education advice, screening activities, implementing care at the surgery, community or other settings, maintaining clinically accurate records and running clinics. They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients and support the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing HCA guidance as required. You may be expected to supervise more junior members of staff where appropriate.

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • GCSE Grade A to C in Maths and English
  • Qualified to NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent
  • Desirable

  • Phlebotomy trained
  • Wound Care up to Tier 3 trained based on Doncaster Wound care alliance training.
  • Experience within a Health care setting preferably GP setting.
  • Vaccination course to offer annual vaccines (Training can be provided )
