Role Purpose:


The workforce planning team offers our force three key services; support to operational workforce deployment; strategic workforce planning and workforce data management.


Our Workforce Planning Business Partner leads our Workforce Planning Management and Advisor team, their role is to partner with our P&OD People Partners, operational business areas and the duties management team to deliver key information around our posts and people.

The aim is that support our operational managers understanding of their resources to aid with medium to long term strategic resourcing plans, that are aligned to the forces financial commitments so that we can move the right people resources into the right posts to meet our force business plans.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Promote a holistic approach to workforce planning, which underpins delivery of the force workforce plan, the national resourcing uplift, and the forces plan on a page
  • Work to establish and embed a resourceforecasting tool so it becomes a businessasusual activity in line with other business planning processes.
  • Work with District Commanders/Head of Departments to understand the resource demands on their functions and develop realistic action plans to address gaps in the size and shape of their workforce. Reviewing short and longterm resource forecasts to allow more effective succession and recruitment planning.
  • Work closely with BP peers to understand and anticipate future challenges.
  • Capture and model business pipeline data to determine the impacts on the future workforce, enabling a strategic view of the workforce.
  • Work closely with senior leaders to develop analyses, scenarios and options to formulate strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Anticipate trends in the policing sector and across the broader political, external operating environment.
  • Analyse and monitor workforce statistics including retention, leavers and diversity profiles to identify trends and gaps, making recommendations to address these.
  • Work with recruitment and ODL to ensure the organisation's talent is fit to meet future challenges, ensuring that resourcing plans are fit for purpose.
  • Skilled in setting function, team and individual objectives, assessing progress, identifying emerging risks, issues and opportunities, and taking corrective steps as required to ensure that the right results are achieved.
  • Able to lead, develop and motivate, both within P&OD/SR and across the organisation, showing passion, energy and commitment, creating strong engagement with P&OD's priorities and with Force values and behaviours.
  • Able to hold individuals to account for their performance and behaviours.
  • Set performance objectives, holding staff accountable for delivering these and taking appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the delivery of SR priorities.
