Position:

Facilities Development & Construction Engineer (BiW)


This role is responsible for the development and implementation of feasible cost effective manufacturing Layouts and Facility / Material Handling installations.

The position will require placements at the engineering centres as well as all the manufacturingplants.

As an integral part of the wider Manufacturing Engineering family, you may also be asked to assist with, or take control of projects within other technologies


Main functions:

Layout, Facility and Material Handling conveyor development from concept planning,through installation and into production working closely with Process Engineering, VME, MP&L, METC, OEM's and Plant to determine optimum solutions Main customers: Body in White Manufacturing.

Key Performance Indicators:


  • Develop Layout & Facilities in line with Bill of Process & PCDS gateways & Scorecard pillars.
  • Maximise equipment usage to achieve project Capital & Operational Investment targets
  • Develop Layout solutions to meet Hrs/car target maximise operator efficiency by load window
  • Develop Value for money solutions for all Engineering changes against CAPEX & OPEX targets.
  • Delivery of Facility through to Performance buyoff by driving 9 Panel process to ensure facility delivers within its Simulated Targets (DES) for MTTR & MTBF ensuring adherence to Design Cycle time.
  • Deliver green ergonomic status.
  • Deliver projects which are compliant with the environmental vision

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Generation and management of Costs, Budgets and Timing Plans.
  • Coordinate the support of Plant Engineering functions with respect to the provision of:
  • Lighting, Mechanical/Electrical Services, Heating & Ventilation, Extraction, Amenities and Civil Works.
  • Coordinate and update layout data changes in line with Process & Simulation teams & Maintain Layout File Standards & Structures.
  • Provide Layout and Facility support to Current model BIW operations.
  • Manage Facility Buy offs and hand over to customer department.
  • Manage the design, procurement and installation of miscellaneous non process aligned equipment and facilities Interface between process engineering / METC / OEMs /PE / Plant.
  • Management of Health & Safety including CDM control and implementation.
  • Responsible in supporting the generation and management of CAD layouts.
  • Ensure adherence to Integrated Production System (IPS) deliverables.
  • Manage technical issues and escalate where appropriate.
  • Contribute in the development and submission of departmental responses to product letters etc.
  • Support and lead virtual build events, raising and managing issues where appropriate.
  • Support physical builds at Plant locations, raising and managing issues where appropriate.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested from time to time.

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant previous experience of Manufacturing / Engineering processes tools & techniques & layout development and facilities enabling.
  • A working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation, particularly CDM Regulations.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience of AutoCAD & FactoryCAD
  • Flexible approach to job responsibilities and working hours
  • A working knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation, particularly CDM Regulations.
  • Past experience of layout & project management experience installation programs.

Preferred:


  • Knowledge of and involvement in the Facilities & layout development for new models.
  • Experience of vehicle body assembly process development, body assembly equipment including tooling, automation and robotics.
  • You will also possess relevant project control skills with strong communication & negotiation skills.
  • Evidence of an innovative approach to technical problem solving and process development.
  • The ability to recognise the value of, and employ bestinclass processes wherever practicable.
  • The ability to work with financial information with technical decisionmaking. The ability to work within a multidisciplinary teams in the pursuit of complex technical solutions and commissioning issues.
  • Knowledge of New Product Development Systems.
  • Project management experience
  • Understanding Lean Manufacturing Principles
  • Knowledge of industrial conveyor systems

Education:


  • Ideally educated to Degree level in Manufacturing or a similar engineering discipline
