BIW Tooling Engineer

9-12 Months Contract

Outside of IR35


We are working with a world class organisation who design, develop and manufacture niche vehicle globally seeking an experienced
BIW Tooling Engineer for a long term contract, supporting five new vehcile platforms.

As a
BIW Tooling Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • BIW requirements capture working with engineering teams
  • Development of prototype tooling for new vehicle programmes
  • Liaising with suppliers/vendors during tooling development phases
  • Identify machine tools for BIW production
  • Project manage the delivery of tooling requirements from concept through to launch
  • Development of jigs and fixtures associated with BIW production requirements
  • Working with engineering to provide technical expertise on BIW / Press Products to ensure feasibility, making recommendations for product changes (PFMEA)
  • Create process documentation to buy off concepts and tooling
As a
BIW Tooling Engineer you will have knowledge and experience in:

  • Development of BIW Tooling within the automotive arena
  • Knowledge of BIW products Underbody, Body side and Closures from initial concept/design through to product launch
  • Design review and buy off the concept design with customers.
  • Managing supplier and vendors during selection process and through project delivery of tooling leading prototype trials and commission of tooling
  • Maintaining tooling data documentation as per customer standards.
  • Design experience in BIW welding fixtures and its components would be advantageous
  • Good knowledge of manufacturing and assembly process within BIW
  • Good understanding of automotive BIW welding processes like spot welding, arc welding, material handling & roller hemming would be advantageous
  • Good Knowledge of GD&T and detailing.
