The friendly team in the Ultrasound Department at CUH are looking for a Specialist Advanced Practitioner Sonographer in Paediatric Scanning.


You will have previous experience of working in the NHS as a Sonographer and will have received specialist training in Neck Ultrasound.

You must be able to demonstrate that you have undertaken CPD to support your Paediatric scanning practice and that your scanning and reporting skills in this area have been formally assessed and that you passed the assessment.


The post is designed to support the Paediatric Consultant Radiologist Team and you will work closely with them to ensure that the service can flex to meet the demand.

You will have a job plan which includes scanning specialist paediatric lists, taking part in MDT meetings as required and training Sonographers and SpR.

You will also undertake some general ultrasound lists as required by the rota.

  • To undertake a wide range of ultrasound scans and provide written reports.
  • To be an expert practitioner and service lead in one specialist area of ultrasound.
  • To perform biopsies and other interventions as appropriate.
  • To assess complex clinical information to ensure that the imaging that is performed contributes significantly to a diagnosis for the patient.
  • Provide professional advice to other professionals, multidisciplinary groups, patients and carers.
  • To participate in the training of radiology registrars, sonographers student sonographers and radiography students.
  • To contribute to research, audit and education activities.
  • Contribute to the operational and strategic development of ultrasound services.

We are a busy service with a complex and interesting general ultrasound workload which includes abdominal, gynaecological, small parts, MSK, Head and Neck, Paediatrics and Transplant Surgery patients.

You will be involved in training Trainee Sonographers and Radiology Registrars.


We are very focused on developing the skills of our workforce so offer in house training in various areas and have supported team members to undertake formal specialist training and complete their Masters qualification and other CPD activities.

We can offer flexible working arrangements and currently offer a recruitment and retention supplement.

In order support service delivery in the community you may be required to work off the main CUH site as part of the rota.
