As part of this investment we are looking to recruit a
Safety Risk Business Partner, on a full time, permanent basis based in
Birmingham.


You will be expected to lead a team of Safety Business Partners ensuring appropriate advice, guidance and support is offered by the team to colleagues across the business on all matters relating to occupational safety.

Compile the safety risk profile for the business ensuring suitable mitigations are in place to manage the top risks identified.


What does the job involve?

  • Support the Head of Safety to develop, implement and review the occupational safety strategy for the business ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Ensure professional support, advice and guidance is provided to the rest of the business on occupational safety by yourself and through the team of Safety Business Partners.
  • Provide support to the Head of Safety in producing safety reports / investigations as required.
  • Manage and compile the company safety risk profile / register through the use of industry tools, available internal data such as accident, incident and near miss and through any emerging key themes both within the industry and outside which may be of relevance. Ensuring the top risks identified have suitable mitigations which are tracked and reviewed as required but no less than on a quarterly basis. The safety risk profile will be shared with SEMG and Safety Exec members.
  • Ensure Fire Safety is managed within WMT according to legislation, this role will be the informed buyer for fire safety services and will require the appropriate level of training / competence.
  • Manage the Safety Management of Change process with the Safety Business Partners, ensuring that any changes within the business which may require safety validation are picked up and tracked through to completion.
  • Facilitate HAZOPs as and where required.
  • Report to SEMG on outstanding / overdue recommendations for accidents, occupational safety investigations, high level risk assessments such as fire or where a tool such as RSSB's 'Taking Safe Decisions' has been used, assigned requirements from safety validations and corrective actions from audits.
  • Undertake safety investigations and deep dives where appropriate and as and when required.
  • Act as the Single Point of Contact for CIRAS, ensuring all reports are tracked and investigated, reports and responses should be shared at SEMG.
  • With the Safety Business Partners attend and provide relevant information / packs to the functional Safety Environment Groups (SEGs).
  • Assist the functions with accident reduction plans.
  • With the Safety Business Partners run safety campaigns and roadshows to ensure continuous improvement in safety culture across the business.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade and post and as required.

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • Previous experience of managing a team is essential
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office software

  • NEBOSH Fire or Equivalent
  • NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent and working towards NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
