    We are currently seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Legal Clerk to join our Adults and Education Team within the CoaCH Directorate, Legal & Governance Division. As a Legal Clerk, you will play a vital role in providing administrative and clerical support to our team of solicitors and legal assistants, focusing on debt recovery and civil litigation cases across all Directorates of the County Council.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide comprehensive debt recovery service to the County Council, handling complex commercial, contractual, consumer, and statutory debt recovery cases.
    • Assist in handling adult social care debt, including residential and non-residential care fees.
    • Support in debt recovery practice for complex probate cases or cases where the debtor lacks mental capacity.
    • Assist in the enforcement of Section 106 Town & Country Planning Act 1990 agreements through statutory injunctions.
    • Prepare legal documents and bundles for proceedings under the supervision of solicitors or legal assistants.
    • Handle telephone enquiries, prioritize calls, and respond appropriately.
    • Maintain diaries, both electronic and paper, and undertake general office administration tasks such as filing, photocopying, and faxing.
    • Input data into electronic and paper information systems and assist with the preparation of documents and information.

    Person Specification:

    Qualifications/Training:

    • A good level of education to at least GCSE standard, including English and Maths at Grade 'C' or above.
    • Law degree, CILEX qualification, or equivalent legal qualification is essential.
    • Further or higher educational qualifications, preferably with a legal element, are desirable.

    Experience/Knowledge:

    • Experience of office systems, including MS Office suite.
    • 6 months of experience working within an office environment.
    • Awareness of Local Government or other public sector environment is desirable.

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Attention to detail and accuracy.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to prioritize workload and work in a self-disciplined manner.
    • Good keyboard skills and proficiency in using computer applications.
    • Ability to stay calm under pressure and handle distressing material sensitively.
    • Team player with initiative and good numeracy skills.
