University Sussex Hospitals are looking for two outstanding substantive consultants to join our team, working in a fantastic area of the country.
The successful applicants will have the opportunity to hone and expand their clinical skills in addition to developing services within University Hospitals Sussex and our partner organisations.
In addition being part of the pain service, the post holders would become integral parts of the anaesthetic department of the east side of the Trust, delivering anaesthetics and inpatient pain support at both of our hospitals: the Royal Sussex County (just a few minutes walk from the beach) and the Princess Royal set in the beautiful Sussex countryside.
Our anaesthetic department is dynamic and has an excellent reputation for teaching, research and innovation for the benefit of our population.
We offer a mixture of tertiary general work such as Vascular, Major Trauma, Gynae Oncology and Head and Neck, as well as general anaesthetic work including Obstetrics, Colorectal, Orthopaedics and Urology, and any new post holders would become equal participants in our existing teams.
The successful applicant will deliver outpatient clinics and interventional pain theatre sessions from the Southlands Hospital site.Inpatient pain support and a two anaesthetic sessions per week will be provided at a combination of the Royal Sussex County Hospital, the Princess Royal Hospital and their associated smaller locations.
As a developing service, there are plenty of opportunities for leading service redesign and quality improvement projects and experience/enthusiasm for these areas would be welcomed.

From the moment you start with us and throughout your career we will help you to grow and develop.The job plan will consist of four pain medicine sessions per week, comprising of two outpatient clinics, one interventional theatre list and one inpatient pain session at RSCH/PRH.
Two general anaesthetic sessions per week will be based flexibly at either the Princess Royal or Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Participation in the established monthly spinal triage/ pain MDT and lead on developing other similar MDTs as the service requires will also be included in the role.
In addition, there will be responsibilities for supervising and assessing specialist trainees and other members of the multi disciplinary team, as well as offering support and guidance to existing medical and nursing pain colleagues for inpatient pain management.
The post holder will have a commitment to teaching of both undergraduates and postgraduates and evidence of active participation in teaching is desired.
