The role:


This is an exciting opportunity to join our fast-growing organization and be part of making a difference in the lives of many local people experience mental ill health.

This role will be based in our new REST Hub in Thetford.

The REST Thetford Hub provides a safe place for people experience poor mental health to access support and talk about their challenges over a cuppa in order to promote recovery and growth.

The Hub is designed as a Psychologically Informed Environment (PIE) offering a warm and welcoming feel.

Since launching in April, REST Thetford has support over 1,000 individuals to improve their wellbeing through 1-2-1 sessions, group sessions, advice/information and holistic approaches.


A typical shift for the coffee shop assistant would involve opening up the Hub, prepping food, cleaning the coffee area and setting up machines ready for the day's service.

On opening the Hub, you will be the contact person for all food and drink sales with support from colleagues such as the Peer Support Workers and Recovery Workers where required.

You will be a contact point for individuals dropping into the Hub for information and support and will direct them to the appropriate staff located within the Hub.

Where required and appropriate, you may offer advice and information to clients through a 1-2-1 session.


Among Other Responsibilities You Will:


  • Be responsible for making & selling drinks and food we provide
  • Ensuring food and presentation is of the highest standard
  • Collecting and recording payments made towards food/drinks in the Hub
  • Receiving and checking deliveries and rotating stock as necessary
  • Complying with all food safety processes, systems and procedures
  • Maintaining excellent standard of customer care
  • Offering advice, signposting and help to individuals who dropin to the Hub for support
  • Encourage people experiencing mental ill health to engage with nonemergency services that are more appropriate to support their recovery
  • Supporting volunteers to carry out their roles in the coffee shop

What we are looking for:


  • Experience of working in a Café or Restaurant
  • Empathetic listener with knowledge of Mental Health issues
  • Ability to work on own initiative and follow organisational procedures
