Research Fellow (SALIENT)
SBU/Department: School of Health & Social Work / Centre for Research in Public Health and- Community Care (CRIPACC)
FTE: 1.0 FTE, working 37 hours per week (job-share considered)
Duration of Contract: Fixed term contract until 31st March 2025
Salary: UH7 £36,333pa to £43,155pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and- experience
Annual Leave: 35 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield- We are seeking a highly motivated individual to work on the SALIENT project (food System triALs for Impact on Environment, Nutrition and healTh), which is evaluating a range of co-designed food system trials, designed to encourage healthy and sustainable diets.

This is an exciting opportunity for applicants to work within CRIPACC, which is a vibrant and supportive environment for research staff.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • For this position you will take a lead role in setting up diverse public involvement groups and working with established ones; organise and facilitate meetings for these groups and lead on all associated administration and attend trial team meetings across the project, keeping abreast of their aims and progress, and liaise with trial leads about topics and issues they want public input on.
  • Duties will also include facilitating contact and feedback with public contributors for the trial teams and process evaluation team. This could include organising meetings, presentations, and preparing materials to be sent out for comment and taking a lead on preparing communications and updates for the public involvement groups.
  • Additionally you will, seek external funding as appropriate and disseminate the outcomes of the project in publications, at conferences and through other appropriate media.
  • Staff management duties, such as oversight of staff issues and monitoring staff workloads, whilst ensuring talented staff are recognised and records maintained will also be expected.
    Skills and experience required
  • You will have you will have proven experience of recruiting, working with, and maintaining relationships with diverse groups and communities in applied research. You must have experience of undertaking public involvement activities and carrying out associated administrative and organisational tasks. You will also have experience of qualitative research, data collection and analysis.
  • In addition to this you will have good IT skills the ability to communicate with different audiences and the ability to plan and manage own activities. For this role you will also be required to have good oral and written communication in both spoken and written English, and excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • You will be flexible and adaptable to workload and team requirements and be able to demonstrate initiative and the ability to learn new skills.
    Qualifications required
  • You must hold a minimum of an undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline and a PhD (or close to the completion of a PhD) in an area related area, or equivalent experience.
