    Job summary

    The post holder will be based at the MEMS department in Singleton hospital and have the requisite knowledge and skills to work independently with a range of complex & non-complex electrical medical equipment including repairs of medical devices such and varied medical gas/vacuum equipment.

    They will have the knowledge to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and have the autonomy to deal with issues within the remit of the post but will refer more complex problems to suitably qualified colleagues.

    Main duties of the job

    The post holder will be expected to plan and organise Planned Preventative Maintenance - PPM activity on a wide range of complex and non - complex medical equipment and gas equipment including, but not limited to, flow meters, suction units, injector suction units, entonox regulators, gas regulators etc.

    The post holder will be expected to plan and organise the calibration of the departments test equipment used on complex and non - complex medical test equipment plus gas test measurement appliances.

    The post holder will be expected to carry out their duties within the workshop environment and in a clinical environment Wards, Theatres, and Critical Care etc. The post holder will be expected to train end users in the use of medical gas and suction equipment and some complex and non - complex electro-medical devices.

    The post holder will be based at Singleton Hospital, where the major part of the duties will be delivered, but will be expected to work in other parts of the Health Board as required.

    Job responsibilities

    To provide a maintenance service for complex & non complex electro-medical equipment, medical gas/suction devices primarily within Singleton Hospital, but also associated sites and premises when required.

    To take specific technical responsibility for performing calibration and maintenance checks of medical gas/vacuum equipment and non-complex electro-medical equipment.

    To diagnose faults with the aid of service manuals, diagrams and specialist tools to effect repairs to component level on medical gas/vacuum equipment and non- complex electro-medical equipment and systems.

    To perform electrical safety test on a wide range of electro-medical devices. To ensure that service procedures and maintenance records are accurately followed and maintained. To perform commissioning and acceptance tests on newly purchased and loan equipment.
