We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual for this exciting and challenging hands-on role in the Wessex Area.

As a Field Lead Team Member, you'll be responsible for leading and supervising teams to maintain and operate our flood and coastal assets and defences, as well as responding to incidents.

You will also lead teams to carry out a maintenance programme, undertaking vegetation management and light construction duties. This is a field-based role, and you will be required to work outside in all weathers. As part of the role you will also be required to complete our Water Environment Worker Apprenticeship.

  • The team
  • The Field Teams are based in the Wessex Area, with depots in Bridgwater, Dorchester and Salisbury.

We work closely with our Asset Performance, Hydrometrics, Biodiversity and Environment Management Teams to deliver a varied work programme in our River Catchments.

The team is well-trained with a variety of specialist skills and experience, including driving and operating plant, chainsaws and mowing equipment.

Undertaking tree work, grounds maintenance, minor construction works and operation of water level management structures.

  • Experience/skills required
  • We are looking for someone with an excellent track record of field, or sitebased work and who can demonstrate good leadership and communication skills with a positive attitude.
- good understanding of site health and safety requirements
- the necessary practical skills and understanding in environmental awareness as well as a hands-on approach
- some experience in asset operation or maintenance, incident response, use of equipment/tools is an advantage
- excellent Leadership skills and the ability to coach, challenge and encourage team members
- ability to communicate effectively with team members and colleagues, landowners and the public
- ability to solve problems, make decisions and use initiative, especially when working under pressure
- confident with written communication and handling numerical data
- competent in using IT devices, such as IPAD and IPHONE and willingness to learn our in-house systems
- planning and organisation of equipment and materials to be available on site
- full UK driving licence is required

  • The role will be based at our Winterbourne Gunner Depot in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
