    Hours: 30 hrs per week

    Salary: £25, (pro rata) (Salary Point 22)

    About the Role

    Scottish Government has announced an extension to the programme of Distress Brief Intervention (DBI) across Scotland. The extended programme will be available to support people whose mental health has been impacted as a result of the pandemic. SAMH are looking to recruit DBI practitioners to provide a Level 2 DBI service to Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

    A Distress Brief Intervention is a time limited and supportive, problem solving contact with an individual in distress and is a two-level approach. DBI level 1 is provided by staff from front-line services, such as: GPs, Community Link Workers, Police Scotland, the Scottish Ambulance Service, CMHTs and Unscheduled Care pathways. This involves a compassionate response, signposting and offer of referral to a DBI level 2 service.

    DBI Level 2 is provided by trained SAMH staff who receive referrals via DBI Level 1. The DBI Practitioner will contact the person within 24-hours of referral and provide compassionate, problem solving support, wellness and distress management planning, supported connections and signposting for a period of up to 14 days. The DBI Practitioner role is an exciting and challenging post which makes a real difference to people's lives. You will use your great communication skills and mature attitude to support people to achieve their identified outcomes. Previous experience and knowledge of supporting people with their mental health would be desirable.

    What we are looking for

    We are looking to recruit 1 very highly motivated individual to join our small, friendly DBI team In Inverclyde. DBI practitioners provide support, advice and personal support planning for people referred from front-line services, carrying out a 14 day intervention to people in distress. The role of the DBI Practitioner is to review the reasons for the individual's distress, and support the person to develop immediate coping strategies and link them into a range of appropriate community services and facilities. The DBI Practitioner will also support the person in distress to develop their Distress Brief Intervention Management Plan and link individuals into a range of appropriate community services and facilities as appropriate


    •You will have the skills provide compassionate connected direction and guidance to people referred to the DBI from GPs, Community Mental Health Teams, Police Scotland and Mental Health Assessment Units.


    •Support the Team Leader to co-ordinate, evaluate and review this support while providing accurate data information and completed distress management plans.


    •Have the ability to communicate constructively and confidently with multiple partner agencies such as Police Scotland, NHS 24, GPS, CMHT, and Ambulance Service


    •You will have the skills and knowledge to ensure safe and effective provision of support to those people who use the DBI service through the promotion of outcomes focused person centred approaches

    Training in Level 2 Distress Brief Intervention, specific to the post, will be provided. Preferred that candidates live in Inverclyde (or surrounding areas) and have a full driver's license and access to their own transport.
