As a Senior Director Biostatistics & Programming, you will be a key member of our senior leadership tea responsibilities will include the following.

Oversees operational excellence for both the statistician and statistical programming functions within the department. Directs the development and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures and Working Practice Documents. Provides extensive consulting services to a multi-disciplinary senior management team to identify critical needs and develop strategic initiatives. Leads process improvement and implements standards. Consults with project teams, sponsors, and other clients/agencies on project-related issues.


Essential Functions for this position:


  • Manages staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, behavioral and technical coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations. Approves courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations. Reviews and approves time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime. Promotes all aspects of PPD Equal Employment Opportunity policy and Affirmative Action Plan. Assures department adherence to good scientific, ethical, and regulatory standards.
  • Standardizes processes across sites within the biostatistics and statistical programming functional areas. Evaluates and supervises the development of new tools and technology that would increase efficiency and accuracy within department.
  • Informs senior leaders of department activities, accomplishments, and needs.
  • Participates in longrange strategic planning, development of departmental business plan, and departmental budget.
  • Prepares bids, for marketing, and business development.
  • Communicates company and department policies and priorities to department staff and assuring compliance.
  • Ensures appropriate personnel resources are applied to department projects based on priorities and relative complexity.
  • Provides statistical consultation and serves as senior reviewer on projects. Reviews and/or approves documents related to project activities.
  • Participates in project development and FDA meetings concerning investigational and marketed drugs assigned to the department.
  • Plans strategically, develops department initiatives and implements plans. Coordinates objectives and direction for department.

Education and Experience:


  • Masters degree in statistics, biostatistics, mathematics or related field with 13+ years of experience, preferring at least 15 years of leadership experience or at least 17 years with only a Bachelors degree
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job
  • 7+ years of management responsibility
  • Strong leadership skills
  • In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

  • Capable of leading, managing and setting strategic direction in a multidisciplinary team setting
  • Capable of managing and leading staff in other locations as required
  • Outstanding management skills, as shown through management of multiple projects and staff members and evidence of mentoring and staff guidance
  • Capable of recognizing need for process improvement and carrying forward process improvement objectives
  • Capable of facilitating communications with clients, project teams, departments and staff
  • Advanced understanding of budgeting and forecasting to participate in bidding and business development activities
  • Thorough understanding of working with large, complex data systems
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated logical thought and strong understanding of database structures
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in the English language
  • Positive attitude and enthusiasm toward work
  • Comprehensive organizational, judgment, analytical, decisionmaking and interpersonal skills
