This is an opportunity for an excellent individual to join the Cabinet Office Communications team and work with the UK Government's most influential partners and impactful communications for Cabinet Office and Civil Service senior officials.


The Communication Directorate within the Cabinet Office is an agile and fast paced unit which operates in line with the Modern Communication Operating Model.

The advertised role will sit within the CS Communications, CO Internal Comms and External Affairs team.


Our work is varied and ranges from cross government co-ordination to civil contingencies, reputation management, constitutional affairs and Civil Service wide staff engagement programmes.


We are looking to enhance our communications, campaigns and engagement capability, improve how we cascade and amplify our messages to and via key partners and the service we provide to our lead officials.


We require a strong communicator to provide strategic direction, oversight and ensure delivery of all Civil Service Communications activity, which engages and inspires civil servants.

Based in the Cabinet Office Communications team, this role is critical to ensuring that there is a co-ordinated civil service narrative across Government.

We are looking for someone with a background in leading teams which produce high impact communications, with experience of communication to people within large and multiple organisations.


You must have experience of producing, advising and delivering Internal Communication and Engagement strategies, and delivering high profile, multi-channel campaigns.


You should have a foundation of excellent digital skills and an eye for creating engaging content, which you can work with your team to produce.


The post holder must have excellent partnership working skills to be successful in this role, understand the value of this way of working and actively seek to build relationships to enable delivery across government.


Job description:


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Civil Service communications team, ensuring each member of the team has a wellrounded set of skills, are excellent practitioners and have the necessary management, tools and training to deliver high quality work. You'll contribute as a communications leader within the Government Communication Service (GCS) by actively participating in crossgovernment programmes and working closely with No10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office press team.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across government to agree and align on shared messaging as well as gain buyin for key commitments.
  • Work with crossdepartmental colleagues to ensure all communications activities have robust plans and consistent content which align to the strategy. Manage short term planning through the communication grid. Triage incoming requests for communications support for new or emerging engagement priorities
  • Deliver key pieces of work or campaigns, overseeing all aspects of the communications delivery including content, press, social media, events and audience analysis.
  • Provide strategic direction and oversight for crossgovernment campaigns, using an array of channels both internal and external, reporting to the Head of Civil Service Communications
