    Electronics / Electro-Mechanical Technician:

    We are seeking a motivated, experienced and enthusiastic person to join our busy team that service and manage a wide range of specialist medical devices across the county of Worcestershire.

    The current vacancy is a post at the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch and the successful applicant will be expected to travel between other sites including Kidderminster Hospital on a regular basis as part of this post.

    You will have at least 2 years practical experience with electronic and or electro mechanical medical equipment maintenance and hold a minimum BTEC qualification or equivalent Electro Mechanical engineering qualification.

    The successful applicant will also possess good general practical skills and have a sound knowledge of a broad range of medical equipment.

    To provide a responsive and efficient technical support service for medical devices and decontamination equipment within, and on behalf of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

    To perform all duties required to provide safe operation of medical devices and decontamination equipment throughout their life cycle, this will include pre-purchase assessment/evaluation, commissioning, planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, calibration checks, regulatory testing and decommissioning as required.

    Job Title:
    Electronics / Electro-Mechanical Technician


    Grade:
    Band 5

    To provide a responsive and efficient technical support service for medical devices and decontamination equipment within, and on behalf of the Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust.

    To perform all duties required to provide safe operation of medical devices and decontamination equipment throughout their life cycle, this will include pre-purchase assessment/evaluation, commissioning, planned preventative maintenance, breakdown repairs, calibration checks, regulatory testing and decommissioning as required.

    All procedures are to be conducted within the departments quality procedures.
    The post-holder will work under the supervision of senior grade staff as required.

    There is a shared responsibility to maintain all items of medical equipment varying in complexity from simple battery operated equipment to advanced life support systems.

    The post-holder will be expected to travel between Trust sites and other clients as required. The post-holder will participate in a 24hour on-call rota as required.

    Nursing and Medical staff (all grades) in all clinical areas, other healthcare professionals, department managers and staff, patients, relatives, Estates and facilities staff (all grades).

    GP surgeries, other hospitals, manufacturers and representatives, Medical Healthcare products Regulatory Authority, Patients and relatives.
    Risk Assessment

    Duties includes:

    open live working at low and high voltages (at high current capacity), chemical and biological hazards, high temperature pipework, high pressure steam and vacuum systems, operating active surgical and therapeutic equipment, lifting heavy equipment up to 30kg (with assistance).

    Responsible for the maintenance, under supervision when necessary, (includes whole life-cycle of equipment, pre-commissioning evaluation, commissioning, planned maintenance, breakdowns and de-commissioning), of a wide range of patient connected medical equipment, decontamination equipment in a safe, efficient and responsive manner causing the minimum disruption to patient services.

    To work within clinical areas with Medical and Nursing staff, (including patients), to resolve equipment issues as they arise.
    Will produce accurate service reports of work undertaken for audit purposes, (technical, financial, quality and statutory)
    Will operate the Technical Services database and all computer applications required to calibrate, test and repair equipment.

    Will operate all relevant test equipment and advise the senior technician or Technical Services Manager of any issues as they arise.

    Will keep the senior technician or Technical Services Manager informed of potential risks to the service, general issues that are appropriate to the delivery of the service.

    Will ensure that all procedures to maintain the quality systems and Health and Safety policies of the department are adhered to, and will actively participate in any audit of the system that is deemed necessary.

    Will attend manufacturers and health service courses to obtain the necessary skills to undertake the duties of the post and maintain records of training received.

    BTEC Electronics or Equivalent Electro Mechanical engineering
    *Must hold current driving licence

    Bsc Electronics / Electro Mechanical

    Has some practical experience working with electronic and electro/mechanical medical devices,

    Personal Qualities
    Polite telephone skills understand and carry out instructions accurately.
    *Must be prepared to attend training courses appropriate to position e.g. health and safety training / manufacturers courses specific to equipment types.
    *Familiarity with wide range of medical equipment to include Decontamination equipment.
    *Understanding of HTM CFPP and acceptance testing (IEC 601) and equipment management DB to Managing Medical Devices 2015
    *Understanding of electrical safety testing to ICE62353 and IEC60601
    *Understanding of working to a formal equipment quality system.

    Able to work outside office hours, unsupervised.
    *Must hold current driving licence
